Default the mountaineer project

we got a 98 mountaineer from the fiance's sister for 500 bucks, its not too shabby. it does have some body damage and a salvaged title...but i dont care, i plan on doing a mild build to it so we have a winter/camping rig. anyways, here are some pics of it after i removed the damaged fender and bumper...more to do today. peace. }=)

yessir, we just needed a decent 4x4 so we could hit up the great out doors. this is what we had literally laying around, so might as well put it to use.

Yup yup. A lot of the parts on that were used in the Mustangs of the same years. You could swap cams, throttle bodies, get a set of factory mustang exhaust manifolds, and a mustang ECU and get a nice bump in power for dirt cheap. The intake manifold sets on those are supposed to be equivilent to the GT40 top ends, so you dont need any work there.

btw, rangerpowersports.com may help you at as well as far as stuff for your Mountie since the Explorer/Mountaineer/Ranger/newer B-series Mazda pickups are pretty much based on the same platform...

The heads on that motor are worth more to 302 junkies than gold. If the entire car blows to hell and back, pull the heads and sell em on a mustang forum for what you paid for the truck.

The whole top end is worth bank. Its a "GT40" style intake, with matching heads, you could pull a couple hundred for the intake manifold set alone.

this project is ended. its getting a new fender and bumper then its staying as is, the fiance will keep it as her winter rig. i figure if im going to build a 4x4 i will just save up for a 94-02 dodge 2500 inline 6 turbo diesel, seems a bit more worthy to me.

**edit** its back on! i cant stand seeing it stock when i know what it could be.
