Default New Cobalt SS runs 8:22 at Nurburg

It looks like Chevy got the formula right this time. 8:22.85 at Nurburgring is no joke. It set a new record for FWD sport compacts. To put that in perspective I'll give you some other times.

Point is, that is a comparison of STOCK vehicles, so speculating about what a modified car would do against a stock cobalt is pointless. The fact that it stacks up to those big names with such a low price tag is very impressive.
Chevy might actually be getting it again. The new 'vette is a badass, the Cobalt is thus far very impressive, let's hope the new Camaro can follow suit.

Should they divide the RWD/FWD cars up? also the ones with mcpherson struts/dual wishbones? there are a lot of factors that determine how fast a car will lap the Nurburgring, whether it sucks or blows is only one aspect of it's performance. Plus, a lot of those cars are naturally aspirated and make more power than the cobalt.

Anything under a 9min lap is impressive. I'd be happy with a 11 minute lap; but that comes along with knowledge of the course.

RWD and FWD drive are ranked differently on the 'ring, along with front and mid engined machines. Locally, stock turbo doesn't change the grouping, as long as the whole car is stock. Stock cars are only ranked against other stock cars of the same class. One thing to keep in mind is that there are Official times, and there are Unofficial times. Bridge to Gantry is a method of measuring times on tourist days, but it's pretty dumb to time yourself inside the car, as most insurance is negated by a 'time trial'. I just looked at the lap times on the official site, and I don't see anything on there about the cobalt SS, but wikipedia says that it's a "manufacturer claimed time". I seem to remember seeing something about a method to 'simulate a nurburgring run' a few months back, quite possibly this is what has happened.

But honestly, when the new CTR can get 8:45.25, @200HP who'se to say a mugen tuned ctr won't beat it? This argument can go on forever. I agree though that comparing a F/I car with a N/A car is a little insane. Also, a cobalt beating an Audi S5 is pretty hard to believe, having driven the latter. This boils down to another ploy from detroit trying to sound special. They beat out a GT-R. Come on.

Is it that Red/yellow/blue tear design Cobalt? That one is S/C. Ive seen it on a few shows now, just recently on Redline TV in a time attack. It rocked Evo's, Sti's etc....The car is an animal! Mostly stock motor and s/c, just a few boltons and some tuning they claim.

pics of what the cobalt looks like?

it could run a 7:00 lap, but if it looks like a rebadged dodge neon, i wouldn't consider it.

You can still get it with the high spoiler. Still I don't think it's much to look at, maybe it looks better in person.

holy shit, is that an FMIC?

it looks like they are trying to replace the srt-4. if they had some better paint schemes it wouldn't look too bad. but they are generic cars. i would rather have that power plant in something that looks a little better. i still think "chevy cavalier" when i see it.

maybe black with some 15" flat black wheels and lowered it would look a world better.

That is a front mount! I find it funny that Garrett came out with a turbo kit for the S/C'ed models, and the the next model year Chevy reintroduced the car with a turbo. Props to Chev for keepin an eye on the aftermarket and givin customers what they want.
