Default Not a Honda question. ~How much does a cast iron big block V8 and tranny weigh?

Like the title says, about how much does a cast iron big block V8 and tranny weigh? I realize that weight will vary from one to another but I'm just looking for a ballpark.

I'm about to buy a shell with a blown engine in it that I would need to ship or tow. Well the vehicle sits at a little over 6000 lbs right now which I have recently realized is damn near impossible to tow without a serious truck. If the engine and trans are a substantial weight, I might be able to pull it (It's junk strap metal at this point anyway) and tow it somewhat more easily. So about how much does a cast iron big block V8 and trans weigh?

Dry weight of the average Big Block Chevy is about 600-700 lbs dependign on heads/intake/carb...

Tranny is probably 150-250lbs depending on type of tranny.

Too many different SB and BBs to give you exact numbers. Quite a few SB/BB Chevy's aren't cast iron.

What vehicle did you get and do you have any numbers/info on what kind of engine it is?

That part is kind of going to be a suprise. I feel like I'd get flamed about this build before I take some tools to it. I'll tell you that its not a chevy.

But I like the idea about shipping weights on Jegs or JCW.

a TH350 weighs closer to 300 lbs than 200. The engine, complete, is well over 500 pounds.
