it's not too bad. It's got some rot in the usual places, but it's loaded with options and has that groovy overhead console (Look at the interior pic)
I'll be bad ass soon. You wait. First goal (outside of the upper end rebuild I'm in the process of) will be 17"x7.5" american racing steel wheels with Falken RD01s, stuffed under the fender with rubberized fender flares. The suspension is getting "Replumbed" to take advantage of that subaru ride-height system that they never used to potential. That's it for this winter. Next year it's getting it's full Celerity treatment.

This is ANOTHER attempt at the Sorceror project. Project Sorceror (Based on the 70s movie of that same name) is to create a vehicle that can "go absolutely anywhere, at anytime, for any reason - no questions asked". The original vehicle for the project was the 4Runner that I brought back from Colorado. I couldn't afford to do shit with it, and the East coast rust claimed it's life right quick. Not to mention, the fuel cost was a huge obstacle (Needs to get no less than 400 miles out of on-board fuel)
In CT, however, a large SUV is actually a hinderance. Here I don't need a rock crawler because I ain't got no rocks for at least 400 miles radius. We have roads. So the new project is slightly modified, and was going to be either a Subaru Brat or Subaru "2 door hatch" (Like a Justy, even) Fuel economy is an added requirement, and ground clearance was removed as one. my Subaru Loyale (The Broodwagon) was a GREAT car on the roads, but the design wasn't my cup of tea. The Brat was my cup of tea, but the salvage title and all the work necessary to it was way out of line. The new RX is the middle ground. Quote:

There are few interesting points about old Subarus: They have 2 ebrake systems. One for the front, one for the back. They are attached to one cable. (will attach them to individual cables and levers) They have a ton of room under the hood, for the spare. Without the spare in the trunk, there is a ton of trunk room. (spare fuel cell and necessary electronics) The suspensions on the upper models had air suspensions that lifted and lowered mildly. You can remove the small charge canister and either install a larger one, or flat-out valves to raise and lower it manually (Raising the car also increases strut pressures, and makes it bounce like a superball) Subaru wheels from that generation are 4x140. Impossible to replace. But you can drill out the Ford 6x140 steel wheels and stuff them on. Subarus lack the torque to break them. Older subaru transmissions are assembled in slices. You can stack certain bits and they all work together (You can make a car with low, high, and ultra high (or low)) You can also lock the rear driveline, or release a factory locked one. You can unplug the vacuum and disconnect the diff locks. All sorts of shit)

Underneath the bumpers will be storage for survival gear / recovery gear. I'm going in the same direction as my CRX with clip-on bumper cover, and an aluminum bar to replace the actual bumper.

Things are getting better at my shop area. I have 3 projects for my own gain right now, and plenty of time to do it. The RX4 will be about 3 years before completion. The Vega is my winter project and the CRX is my next project (I have to assemble the engine, install, and re-do the fender radius). Then I have the AFC install (You still got it?) and the radio install and it's off like a prom dress.
Oh, and tires.

you said you use a lever to put air in it for the air ride?? take that shit out and add a couple of rocker switches. you would only need 3 at the most. 1 to raise/lower entire car, 1 to raise/lower the front and 1 to raise/lower the rear. id also invest in some air gauges too. just a thought...

Factory, you're not supposed to put air in it at all. It just adjusts pressure in the strut for highway or sport driving. The system is very rudimentary, and people will commonly disconnect the expansion tank and regulators and setup an air tank to jack up the pressures. The original system wasn't really made to raise and lower it, just adjust the pressure in the tubes.
But yes, I plan on using the ARB air pump I have on hand, and no tank. I don't need it to hop, and if I jam it full of air, it'll become stiff and unstable. So I'm told I have to jack up the pressures to lift it, then back off to make it somewhat softer. The "full up" position will only be used when I need the clearance. The lower positions will adapt the car for snow or summer (Dropped to the ground for the summer, are you kidding me !? HELL YES)

5 gears, and then a seperate high and low. I can use either ratio on dry pavements.
