Default Saw a 'zuki x90 on the road yesterday..

so i saw a suzuki x90 yesterday in roch, mn.

pic here, for aha moment:

i'd never seen one before so i looked it up when i got home; pretty rare, pretty crappy sales for the 3yrs it was available, and was awarded the title of worst car of all time....what i want to know is do these rock the 4wd or are they too weak, and has anyone ran rally in one?

my cousin had one
it did have 4wd

its basically a really gay version of the geo tracker

the ride is very jittery
the rear tires (drive wheels when not in 4wd) have jack shit for traction and are more than happy to pass the front tires when going through a turn on anything slipperier than clean, dry, warm pavement (sand, leaves, rain, snow, road kill, shade, etc)
they suck balls in the snow even in 4wd... most fwd cars could run circles around this thing (i actually had to tow one out of a snow filled field with my Mazda MX3 GS)
it has no power
the 5spd tranny sucks ass (never drove an auto but i cant imagine it would be any better)
it bounces around off of bumps in the road, expansion joints on bridges, pot holes, man hole covers, pretty much anything that isnt a perfectly smooth surface
it is not even remotely stable at anything approaching a high speed (70mph is about the top of the comfort zone)
it has no kind of cornering stability

it pretty much sucks ass.... id give it a rating of: 1/2 .... with a side rating of : because NO ONE looks straight driving one of those

Talk about a car that looks the same from both ends.

I always thought they were kinda cool. Red Bull bought one and strapped a huge ass can on the back- it ran all over Texas for quite some time.

There's a Mini Cooper that the back has been modified to fit, and one that looks like an Avalanche or Aztec (never got a close look at it) running around here.

Default X90

I don't agree at all. I own three of them and 2 are still on the road. They drive similiar to a Suzuki Samurai and handle as good if not better than anything else with its size wheelbase. The 5 speed is quick and I can easily dust stock civics off the line with only my car having an intake, k&n, and exhaust. The 4x4 works excellent and many reputable 4x4 companys make great lift kits. Trail tough makes one using toyota axles and it wicked flexy. Car hold up great and do handle 80+ speeds no problem on the highway. Corner fine for me. Maybe your cousins car was beat and unmaintained, or he just wasn't a very good driver. I have Green Diamond Icelanders on it and they made a huge difference in handling in the rain and snow. The car has plenty of pep for a 4 cylinder 1.6 sohc, I can smoke the tires through 3rd if I try. Also they have kits to fit 4.3 vortec in them, talk about a true sleeper! I'd give it a 6 out of 10 and am sure must other X90 owners would also guve it good ratings. Only things I've done so far putting over 100k on them is starter, muffler, one power window motor, and general tuneups.

my cousin's was brand new from the dealer... it was 100% stock and dealer maintained regularly
and SHE doesnt even know how to beat on a car, so it definitely wasnt a POS due to abuse

almost bought one... decided against it when i found that because they were made for such a short time and were never all that popular, NO ONE supports them... i couldnt find jack shit for aftermarket support for them (this was in 02) hell half the dealerships didnt even seem to know what they were
cool vehicles, came out a few years ahead of its time... i think they would do much better in todays market

That build is a waste of time. Driven them both, and the Tracker was far superior. For strength and overall grunt, the Amigo is the greatest of the Cute Utes (the Isuzu Mysterious Utility). But Suzuki's XL7, if you ever get to actually check one out, has got to be the strongest and lightest SUV on the planet. It's really done quite well.

That said, the X90 was a neat idea, but it was poorly executed.
