Default VW swingaxle midengine

Hello people! My first post here. I'm looking for information on which Honda or Acura motor would work in my two seater mid engine buggy that I recently put a rod through the top of my VW type 1 bug motor.
I'm looking into swappingout the VW and installing a japanese reliable powerplant!
Which motors spin the wrong direction for my application? This way I will steer away from them. Anyone done anything like this with success stories? I'd really like to hear the pros and cons, thank you!

Unfortunately, I think all the motors up until the K-series all spin the wrong direction. Hopefully you have the $5k required for a k-series, I hear they're very nice engines.

I appreciate the feedback, citizen insane! I've been peepin' around Ebay and find the f series not so insanely priced. Not sure where I'm going with this whole project yet but I just think I want the Honda or Acura motor. If I decide to turbo it at a later date, I think it can be donefor just a little bit more.

All of the front wheel drive engines spin the wrong direction except the new K series and the F20C/F22C (S2000)... well, the wrong direction in comparison to your stock engine. I have actually seen people use the popular B series engine in the bug though- but I think you have to use the VW bus transmission. I think it allows you to run the counter-rotating engine in the bug. That's just what I remember though- check around and you'll find the information easily enough.

I hate to steer you away from Honda engines, but you might consider looking at the Subaru flat 4 engines. Quite a few of those have been put into bugs and Ghias, and the availability of the turbo WRX engines are pretty good too.

I didn't know the bus transmissions (type 2) were different other than being a much stronger unit than the bug (type 1).

Actually, you'd never guess.....

I've (been part of) this swap !

I do Dune Buggies too. The Dune buggy / Honda transaxle is just what you would expect - Honda trans and all. It's not too tough. But if I may say so, you might wanna check out the Neon engines for this type of swap.

The FWD Honda swap was originally done just because the dude had one sitting around. Bruce Meyers and his site (The Manx Club Official Website) details the project. I imagine you're in California ?

Also, I do plan on building a WRX powered Manx. Someday.
