so i finally swapped the y8 head onto my a6!!! the only problem i have now is i have an erratic idle. it jumps up and down from like 1100 to 1400 rpm and doesn't stop. it's not throwing any codes at all. we warmed the car up for a really long time and no change. we drove the car a couple miles and no change. i'm confused cause i've been working on my car for almost 3 days straight and am not sure at all.

just some facts. i have a y8 head and a6 bottom and am using an aem adjustable cam gear that's set to 4.5 degrees retarted. that's what i was told to set the cam gear at by "d16sihatch" on another thread. i swapped from obd0 to obd1 with a jumper harness and am using a p28 ecu. everything's at top dead center and everything's lined up and all. the only thing we haven't done is set the timing perfectly with a timing light, but that should be done shortly. but no matter how we adjust the distributor, it doesn't fix the issue.

please try and help as i need the car in the next couple of days for a trip from seattle to portland. i'm going crazy because i can't figure this out for the life of me. please please please help. thanks a lot everybody

just the man i was hoping for lol. i'm done for tonight. i believe i cleaned the iacv before i installed it. but maybe i should pull it off clean it again. also, i was using the map sensor on the new throttle body but then switched back to the old map sensor on the throttle body hoping that would be the fix, but eventually it started doing the same thing. still no check engine light. any more ideas just in case? thanks

can anybody else throw anything at me. anything at all!!! is that the ONLY thing that can be causing my idling problem? let me know about ANY possibilities. thanks

i forgot to mention, i'm using a gsr throttle body with the y8 manifold. could there be some kind of issue there? if i remember correctly, the hole on the manifold leading to the iacv didn't line up exactly to the one on the throttle body.

so i cleaned the iacv like a mo fo and also threw on the y8 throttle body. the rpm surging is gone!!! i'm really pumped about that. when i cleaned it before, i just cleaned the screens and under the plate, this time i soaked it for a few minutes in brake cleaner and then used the rest of the aerosol bottle spraying it down lol. thanks for that

i have another issue now though. when i'm at idle, around 700 rpm, and i hit the gas, it bogs down a little bit then finally picks up like it's supposed to. this is all done while in nuetral in my driveway, not driving. i'm pretty sure that's a timing issue correct?

the thing is, when the rpm's are on the way back down, it stalls at 1100 rpm for a few seconds then drops back down to the idle at 700 rpm. what could cause this and what's the fix? i'm super close and just need this figured out!!!! i'm really excited to drive this car and finally crack that vtakkkkk lol. thanks again

raceinspiredrex.... i love how these FAKE ASS HONDA "GURU'S" never answer REAL questions. FUCK THIS SITE!!!!!!!!!!! you should stick with www.turbod16.com. im not sure how much mini me info they have, but they do have a shit ton of info that is WAY more organized and easier to search(rather than reading 200 posts to find what you want). and to anyone who would like to comment on my post..... go fuck yourself. WHY CAN'T YOU ANSWER THIS MAN'S QUESTIONS!?!? :fuckyou3: bet yall wont ban me pussies...

im no guru but i think that as long as you have a good gasket you can put the gsr tb back on and it shouldn't surge, but idk.im using a h22 tb on my d15b

i put on the y8 tb just to be sure, but that didn't change anything. i tried a couple other iacv's from different junkyard cars and they didn't really help. but then again, who knows if they were even good at all ya know. i have a known good iacv on now and it's still having a partial issue. it was perfect at first, but now that it's been running for a couple days, it's starting in again a little. now it idles from 1100-1200 rpm, and keeps moving up and down from those rpm's. i mean i could buy one brand new, but they're $125, and maybe that wouldn't fix my problem? there isn't a vacuum leak, somebody's already suggested that. somebody said that it might be because of the complete setup that it's doing that, but i doubt it. i've soaked the iacv with brake cleaner then sprayed it out with brake cleaner, but no change. what if i soaked it in wd40 overnight, then sprayed it out with brake cleaner?

well i noticed that the y8 tb holes don't actually line up perfect with the y8 manifold either, but there is an idented lip on the bottom of the iacv hole on the tb that kinda makes it line up. i'm going to dremel the gsr tb so it's identical to the y8 tb.
