yeah but doesnt it get old hearing what is basically the same song about getting dumped over and over with just different music/words. 95% of punk rock is about getting dumped by a girl. Then you have bands like good charlotte who are just fucking morons that dress up like rancid and sing about being young and hopeless even though they make millions every year.
Davey does not have a screachy girls voice...download Death of Seasons or Dream of Waking or Dancing Through Sunday. Hell name a song where he has a screachy girls voice. I have close to 100 afi songs on my computer and cant seem to think of one. I've seen them live and he has a better scream than almost any hardcore band i can think of.
The song is called 6 to 8 not 3 to 6.
Davey isnt gay. Or if he is he isnt openly gay. Also he has recently had a girlfriend though i'm not sure if he still does. Also he doesnt dress up in the make up an stuff off stage. He was sitting on the stage at warped when rancid was on and he was just waring a tshirt and jeans. I think it's just a stage thing he does. I mean christ look at motley crew or any other 80s band. They wore about 200x more make up and acted 200x more gay. They just had to have thousands of women around to secure their mascualnity. I think davey is just a fem. straight guy.

Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, NOFX, Operation Ivy, Anti-Flag, Against All Authority, Suicide Machines (old), Destruction Made Simple, etc. etc. etc. are all better punk than AFI. AFI is good, but not what I am looking for when I listen to punk.
As for whining about girlfriends, there is so much more to punk than Blink 182 clones. Try to expand what you listen to a little.
MXPX is only okay, I tire quickly of their spiritual overtones. Less Than Jake is not a band to listen to on CD. See them live first. Their live show is awesome and their CDs are mediocre at best. If you want good Ska/Punk, check out Goldfinger (their self titled is much better than Stomping Ground, but their 99 Red Balloons cover is good), or The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
For straight Ska, Mustard Plug is really good. Look for: Skankin Pickle, The Bruce Lee Band, Let's Go Bowling, MU330, the aforementioned Less Than Jake, The Blue Meanies, or anything not listed off of the Asian Man Records label. I have liked every band I have heard from Asian Man, Mike (owner of Asian Man, also in Skanin Pickle and The Bruce Lee Band) signs some of the best Ska bands out there.
Rancid used to be good. Unfortunately I never got to see them play when they were enjoying the music. I saw them a few weeks ago at the Warped Tour and Lars was the only one really interested in performing. Matt and Tim seemed to be up there because they had to be. As for DKM, I think they changed their front man recently. If they did, they need to drop him becasue he belongs in a metal band becuase he doesn't fit their style. If they didn't, their show <<<< their albums. They sound much better on CD than they do live.

for every good punk band you name there are 1000 that suck. in another post i stated that 90% of punks songs are about crap and i still hold to that.
just because you can name a few punk bands doesnt mean anything. i bet you could list every punk band youve ever heard of and ive seen at least half of them live.
either way it doesnt matter, its just a matter of opinion. old afi is punk then they progressed to more hardcore and now they are more goth-punk/industrial. i would hardly consider the new album punk rock anyway.
i just consider them to be the greatest band ever. im sorry that you dont share my opinion

A lot of you guys sound like you don't know much about music (based on what you've posted). You can really come off sounding like a moron to people who know their stuff.
AFI's music is alright... but they're not cool at all. After a show, my friend Clark said, "Hey AFI! You guys fucking rock!" and the lead singer told him to, "Fuck off, you stupid poser"... then the AFI guy got security on my buddy, just for complimenting the bastard.

Davey is a great person. I'm happy they are doing well, but i hate to see an indie band i love end up on mtv and top 40 radio.
The last time i saw them was at a bar here w/ Death by Stereo. the room fit about 60-70 people, and it was amazing.
that was right after black sails came out. black sails was their highest point as far as i'm concerned. Despair Faction is just a fiend club for the 21st century, its all been done before.
