I have 92 civic lx 5speed with the stock D15y7 i believe

Ok i have 2 problems right now the first is the idle, for some reason when i turn the car on the engine surges up and down i thought is was a sensor on the back of the intake manifold because it stopped when i plugged it in (it wasnt plugged in when i got the car) but it started doing it again just yesterday when i turned the car on. The other problem is the throttle seems to stick, when you go to give it gas you need to give it a little force on the pedal as well as the throttle body itself.

any help would be great i need to get the car going for school and work

could be the thrttle cable, the iat sensor, air in your coolant system, poor timing, bad ecu, or 25 other things.

well its not throwing any codes so i have no idea about the surging the throttle i was going to look at closer later but was just wondering if anyone had any ideas

I think you have a vacuum leak somewhere... have you check that yet? I use a can of non flamable brake clean spray all the hoses and connections the motor will die out if you do have one...Just make sure its non FLAMABLEas far as the throttle sticking take off the intake tube. Open the butterfly with your hand and see if its carboned up if so then have it de carboned Black stuff on the butterfly and on the walls of the throttle body cause it to seize up carb clean works well with that also but read the directions on the can...

ok well i started up the car today (been busy with work and school so its been sitting till i can get some money) the engine was still surging but after about 5 mins and it warmed up it stopped and was running smoothly ... any ideas? anyone? please?

the reason for it doing that when its cold could be a few sensors cold idle air control valve or the iacv or vac leak

if it is the sensor is there anyway i could just take it off and clean it and if so with what? i know for the accords they had a little mesh screen/filter inside, and if so hopefully that would work considering its about a $200 part.

mine did the same thing with the surgin. there is a screw on the tb u can turn and it to the right and it will stop it kinda bypasses the iac valve..

i thought that was just for adjusting the throttle? but ill give it a shot

well i tried the screw on the tb and it did nothing so how can you clean the sensor?

right about the screen they are mostly the same. but ive cleaned a perectly working one put back on and it was bad so be careful. but hit a junk yard and grab one or a few

well found out what it was for the most part to fix the fluctuating when first started. it was the FITV the screw inside was extremely loose and after it was screwed back in it started up easier, the TB sticking however is still bad sometimes i have to slam on the gas to unstick it even after cleaning it. any other suggestions on that other than getting a new one?

take apart the throttle body and clean it out clean the spring clean it all its probley really badly gummed up id recommend carb cleaner

yeah took it completely apart clean and scrubbed it and still stuck, so i was looking at it and noticed that the spring where the cable attaches wasn't hitting the little screw stopper thing so i had to adjust it which took awhile since i know if its too far open it can screw with the idle and what not lol and after that i had to readjust the throttle cable but opens smoothly now :D
