Hi wildbillhatchbac.
I followed your build in the other forum before I found this post. I'm waiting a mod to approve my registration on the other forum so I thought I'd post here.

I recently bought a 1973 Honda CB350 for $450AUD, unregistered. I have been tinkering a little to get it ready for registration and am slowly saving for my licence. Yes this will be my Learner Bike :-D.

Your build is very inspiring and I have to try hard not to race out to my garage to start stripping my new toy down for a rebuild. It's coming into summer here in OZ and I want to be able to ride her.

I will be lurking around quite a bit here and over on the ADVrider forum, I also signed up on the DTT Forum, I hope I can keep my ideas from growing too wild....

Thanks again for letting us share the trip from a nice bike to a fantastic piece of art.

hey i hope you put the front tire on right .... its backwards!

noone noticed that?

nice DR bill, my dad has a DR250 and has made a few changes. much nicer than his old XT350 he had... but so lacking in power.

 actually it says right on the tire if it is mounted as a front tire it is supposed to rotate that way, if it is in the rear it rotates the other way

weird shit... but since seeing it on his bike i started paying attention to a lot of other bikes and their tires and its actually pretty common (especially with cruisers)

you really think BILL of all people would have a tire mounted incorrectly?!?!?!? :smack:

Love it. I've got:) 3 '75 Yamaha TX 500's in various states of unassembly that'll be a cafe racer one day. I've at least got my rims and hubs powedercoated and relaced as well as my frame and swingarm coated.

Very nice. I have two CB350 Fours and a CB400 Four. I will post some pics up of the build process this week. I am building them all as Cafe Racers.

That's a good looking bike, I wouldn't mind doing that with something like an old 80s Z1000
Or sticking with a smaller motor and turboing it.

I'm still hunting around lazily for a cafe project. Ebay and Craig's List.. I hit both of them looking for a 350ish cc honda every day. I think all the bikes in my area are either restored or chilling in barns.. None seem to be crossing the intarwebs. I've even been hunting, street to street, country roads, etc.. Looking in open barns, car ports, back yards, etc.. Whatever I can see from the road. There are eleventy billion yammys.. no hondas. I did find a pair of 63? Datsun fairlady roadsters in a barn. One complete car thats been sitting at least 10 years, and a parts car right behind it. Both had square, rot free bodies.. But the people that live there are retired and on perma vacation. I can never catch them at home.

Any one know how long this took. doesn't seem like the op hangs around here much unless hes quiet.

took him a winter to build. we picked it up in decemberish and he was riding it in the spring.

lmao

Damn. I've recently been thinking about picking up a ninja 250 this summer for fuel economy, but now I'm starting to toy with the idea of picking up an old CB and doing this... Any idea what kind of mileage you get?

He probably won't be back to check this for another 3 years.... lol so

mileage isn't the issue... riding it is. they are very uncomfortable and downright scary above 45 mph. it's like saying you want a modelT for a daily driver :D

or, so i've been told.
never rode it.

Well I was asking to see if it would be over 60mpg. I don't really care how scarey it is.

The bike is a head turner. tatted up harley owners have told me it looks dangerous lol. I took it on a few 2-3 hour rides. The bike would do 70 no problem. The charging system was weak. The battery would drain if it idled with the head light on. The big uncomfortable characteristic was the vibration. If you cruised at 65-70 for 15 miles. . . then the last half of those miles you'd have absolutely no feeling in your hands. completely numb! There are things you can due to lesson bar vibrations. not sure how much it would improve though. It was faster than my buddies klx250 though :burnout:

Looks great! I have a 68 CB350 that I am not sure if I going to restore or Cafe. I am in the middle of rebuilding my CB450 engine right now. The 450 has a bit more grunt than the 350, but the 350 with a set of mikuni carbs and 3ohm coils is a fantastic bike.
