That's a good cut.

I rock notched lapel double vent 2 button. Always slimmer if they got it, but not less than 1.5" lapel. I've found a crisp white shirt and a good tie with nice knot is probably the cleanest look. I have probably 5-7 printed/colored shirts and 5 white shirts. But my work is very conservative so I don't get too crazy.

I'm likely going with a nice dark blue shirt under it with a matching pattern tie. will have to try it on for match-ability before hand though.

I dunno man, but I always go lighter on the shirt. This isn't the 90's.

Not sure how the corporate culture is there, but here if you show up in a suit no one will take you seriously. :p

No to the dark colored shirt. Would have to see what color the suit is. Solid white, solid light blue or white with a thin blue pin stripe are all usually interview safe.

If you're in the mafia, you can do a dark colored shirt.

forget about it....

I think a nice light blue is my best choice. my white shirt isn't the crispy dress shirt type, more of a bizcas style

Gotcha. Light blue is classy and matches with everything.

Okay, I am not going to go super snob here - but I do know your taste for expensive hobbies and fine craft. You ABSOLUTELY DO NEED A SUIT TAILORED. In fact, anyone who gives a five about what they look like, will tell you to buy a CHEAP suit and spend more money on a GOOD TAILOR. You can make a well tailored, cheap suit, look like a $1,000 suit. You can easily make a $5,000 Zegna look like a $300 suit if it is not tailored well.

Two rules about suits.
Always have the suit tailored.
Never buy a black suit (except for a funeral).

Third rule is by a jacket that has shoulders that fit well. If the shoulders don't fit well, you need a really good tailor and generally to spend more money than the jacket is worth, to fix it.

Everything else - euro cut versus traditional, side vents versus center vents, 2 button versus 3 button - all of that stuff is up for debate and can change based on body type and use of the suit.

Your best BASIC all around suit? 2 Button, Navy Blue suit that is well tailored and that is worn with some variation of brown dress shoes.

About 8 years ago, I used to buy my suits at Jos A Bank when I thought I knew what I was doing by spending $800 on 3 suits. Sadly most of their suits are behind the times and were far too baggy and pleated to fit in, in today's work world. I actually have the suits hanging in the closet and I just can't wear them anymore knowing how out of style the suit is for today's day and age. They were out of style back then, too.

They may have some decent stuff in the store that you can find but it is generally overpriced. If you know what to look for, you can do fine at a Macy's, Jos A Bank, or Mens Warehouse. Out of those three, I would choose Macy's house brand in the red label variant which is their slim fit/euro cut. You also have the option to buy suit separates there which would have probably worked much better for you than having a 39inch waist tailored. Could have bought a 44R jacket and 32, 34 or 36in pants that could then be tailored where needed and far less cuts would need to be made.

I think you missed my point. ;)

I think I may have...

My point is virtually no one will have a properly fitted suit off the rack. It will likely need some alteration.

@Briansol A super aggressive and fitted style is the modern look. It can be very tough if you're athletically built.

what exactly is 'super agressive' ?

i have a decently built stature these days.... big shoulders/chest/neck so i have to rock a larger shirt with a slimmer cut to make things happen.

Super aggressive = moose knuckle.

As to my point, I said he didn't HAVE TO most people dont, but he should and even went on about how for the money it was well worth it. and that my stuff gets done by my mother in law.

I can't remember the last time I bought pants and didnt have them fitted to me.

Super aggressive would be a very slim fit, bold colors, fashion forward. The sort of stuff you would see on Suits or in a magazine.

A slim fit branded shirt would not be super aggressive. Pretty much everyone can and should wear something like a Brooks Brothers or CharlesTyrwhitt slim fit shirt. The regular fit is quite literally like a bed sheet and made for men that can fall into the obese category.

An extra slim or a fashion forward brand like Bonobos, Thomas Pink or Suit Supply would have real slim fit shirts. Brooks Brothers has an extra slim. For anyone wearing dress shirts daily, if they really care what they look like, they should get a custom shirt template made and buy 6 custom shirts. Very close to the same price of a Brooks Brothers shirt when they go on sale.

Due to my big neck, ALL shirts are obese fitting. My waist is significantly thinner than my chest/shoulders... but it seems like every other person in the world is the exact opposite.

I went to khols last night to look around and see what they had.

They didn't have 1, not 1 single dress shirt in any color or brand in 17 36/37 slim fit. I'd like a 16.5 but i can barely button the neck on 17s as it is. I need a super super ultra slim fit in the 17.

They simply don't make shirts in my size. it's ridiculous. I can get the regular slims online most places though, but they are still a bit baggier than i would like them to be... creates bunching :/

Corey taylor (slipknot/stone sour) has the same problem. There's a skit of him ranting about having an 18" neck and a medium body. lol
