I love the mileage of my CRX, but I can't keep it as it is anymore. Five years back, the radiator blew, taking the head gasket with it. I fixed it or so I thought, but the problem is back and the engine sputters and stalls with the radiator fluid entering it.

So, I hoped to get a JDM engine match for it, but I can't find any. I can get a ZC SOHC, 16 valve SI engine much easily, and I am considering doing the swap.

So, are there any gotchas? Any guides (the vendor's posted that I need to transfer the crank sensor with the oil pump)? I know the transmission/clutch/tires won't work quite well, so I am OK with the loss of power (and loss of mileage) since I don't plan on racing it.

Thanks for any help!

The ZC tranny has a weird axle/mid shaft set up, which is why its just easier to use the si tranny. The si tranny has similar shorter gearing to the zc in a more universal axel set up. The HF tranny is just geared super long for the higher revving engine.... which is great if you want to do 100 in 2nd, but it will take you 5 minuets to get there. lol Otherwise, I don't see why you couldn't re-use it. It should hold the power just fine... axles will fail before the diff would.

If you're really not doing this for performance, why not just find another HF d15? you can probably find one for 100 bucks... there's basically no demand for them. And it will be a 100% change out with no work or wiring or anything else.

Do you mean a used D15B6, HF engine? Where's a good site to look for one?

I thought I'd use a JDM engine since they're likely to be better quality and more reliable.

Most places just provide a 'start up warranty', same as any local junk yard would. Try a few local yards, maybe craigslist... they are probably sitting as paper weights in a lot of peopel's garages
