Honestly, the price of cable isn't the problem to me. it's the god damn boxes, hd fee, technology fee, dvr fee, etc etc that almost doubles the bill.

and why the fuck do i have to buy a land line to get the good deal? oh, and go fuck yourself on the 6 month introductory period fine print.

We loaded up a kodi box with a few dozen movies and shows. We hardly ever turn it on in favor of Netflix :/
You're missing on the magic...

Install the Genesis add on. This allows you to stream any movie or show for free. Think illegal Netflix + torrent but streaming instead of downloading.

Spot on. All the taxes and shit get you. Now it's time to research NAS and an easy to use streaming solution the wife won't mind using

For you cord cutters who want streaming.

raspberry pi + raspbmc OS w/Kodi + Genesis and Phoenix Add ons = HD streaming bliss for $35... Setup can be a little involved if you're not familiar, but once it is all installed and configured your wife can easily use it. Mine loves ours.

The xbmc iphone apps as remote controls are pretty nice too.

One of the big things here is that all those local and state laws that prevent municipal broadband are now null and void. All those cities that were trying to provide internet access to their constituents can do so now.

:werd: I've got a Raspberry Pi B+ and a Raspberry Pi 2 sitting here on my desk right now. :)

Excellent this will be a great starting point. Do I need to stick to the first Gen Raspberry Pi?

I've got a computer with 5TB of drive space loaded with movies and shows and I use TVERSITY to stream to my devices. It's easy to set up, just install then go to the library tab and select the folders that your stuff is in then leave it alone. It streams and can transcode on the fly for devices that don't support a particular file format. My smart TV, PS3 and WiFi bluray players all pick it up automatically.

streaming what?

It aggregates public television feeds and displays it in an easy to use fashion. As near as I can tell anyway. Just got back from being out of town and just started looking into it more seriously.

I know I'm happy with this, and my company is probably happy as well. When I lived in Austin I had to login to the VPN in order to watch netflix because AT&T had throttled the hell out of it.

I don't like my ISP being able to tell me what information I'm allowed to have at full speed, and as long as the government doesn't start stepping in with morality bullshit saying I can't watch porn, then I'm happy.

fucking windows man look that shit up you lazy ass.

I have a plex media installed on my desk top and I access my step bro inlaw's. He has so much stuff on his system, its amazing. Last year I ripped like every dvd and bluray I owned and gave them away. I've found its the best for being able to get to your content anywhere you want. I use some of my cloud storage as a data holder and I can download my stuff directly to any device or stream it anywhere I am.
