The Escort Zx2 is such a good awful ugly piece of shit.

...

Many WRXs get up to a stage 2 level (downpipe, intake, tune, other bolt ons) for ~300whp. There have been a few guys who broke their trannys at this level, but if you're not beating on it, you're generally fine.

...
Why would anyone modify their car up to 300 whp, and then not beat on it? If you're adding power to your car, you're going to beat on it. Otherwise, there's no point. If you're not going to use 300 whp, then you don't need 300 whp.

Beating on it is different than driving it. there's nothing wrong with full power pulls. It's the gear slamming and clutch dropping and driving like a flat brim that usually leads to problems

There's a difference between having fun and and going WOT, and abuse/beating on it.

If you're doing burnouts and launching the car at 5000+ RPM, that's beating on it. If you're just hitting up some twisty backroads and having fun, that's not really "beating on it" IMO. In many cases an AWD car will have more than twice the traction of a similar 2WD car and it puts a lot more shock and stress on the transmission when launching. Doing drag race style launches is the biggest killer for the WRX 5 speed, even at stock power. But as you up the power beyond the 300-350hp mark you greatly increase your chances of stripping the teeth off the gears during even "spirited" driving. The more power you have, the more you'll have to baby it to keep it from breaking.

I have about 300whp right now. Most of my driving is highway cruising. But I do enjoy a nice pull every now and then.

my dad threw a blower on his truck. been solid for 5+ years now. he lights up the tires every now and again, otherwise just drives it to and from work everyday.

Looks like it might actually happen. I'm still not too excited about a $35,000 hatchback. Maybe I just don't like that big of a car payment, maybe I would rather spend $10,000 more and get a BMW. :shrug2:

$10,000 grand more barely gets you an ok equipped 328i Xdrive and chipping it for another $600 will get you about 280ish bhp, a fully loaded 328i Xdrive Is about $55,000...And you'll need at least $21k more to get the 335I Xdrive + another $600 or so to chip it which puts you around 340ish bhp. but you'll be around $57,000 and your in the mid $60,000's for a loaded one

I guess a 320hp AWD Focus is not a bad deal at $35,000 when you do the comparison

Funny how expensive cars have gotten. Can barely touch a bar model Civic for under $20k. I think my 92 went for like $11ish new.

Actually it's probably just the value of the dollar.

wait a little longer and knock 20k off that price.

regardless, its not apples to apples. New RS vs a used BMW...

Slightly used cuts all those drastically. You can get a CPO Elite 328i X Drive for like 38k with nav, etc.
o yeah absolutely.....I thought we were talking new vs new, new Focus vs new BMW...I would buy a used nicer car for 35k rather then this thing....but new for new it seems like a pretty good price point if in fact its $35k.

Hell for 35kish...I would something like this....
