I just bought a b18a1 engine i plan on swapping in to my ek and eventually boosting down the line. this will be my first swap and build so i was wondering what all should i replace/buy for the engine to get the most power out of it, as well as it being strong enough to run boost? around 500-1300$ budget basically low budget but long lasting engine build if that makes since.

weak spot on the b18a/b are the rods. A good set of those will run you 350 -500 ish alone + getting them in is a bit of work. Does that budget include the build or just the turbo aspect?

you can do a budget build b18a1/b1 turbo setup with 8-10lbs and a tune and make easy 225-250whp , small intercooler 2' piping with a garrett t20/25 turbo would not only be super efficient with little to no lag but reliable and you can use the stock bottom end, and its a good base setup you could expand from later if wanted, far as things to replace on the engine assuming you bought a healthy engine id just change all the old gaskets you could and do a timing belt/water pump and adjust the valves while the engine is out and makes things much easier , btw 225whp will be balls fast in your ek would need suspension and wheel/tire to match

In that case, you're in pretty good shape. like I said, 350 ish should get you some decent rods. while you're in there, a set of forged pistons might be a good idea too. I'd put the rest of they money into other supporting parts, like better brakes, suspension etc to handle the power to come with the turbo

Pistons, rods, ARP rod bolts and head studs at minimum if you're going to do it. You can always go back and add the head studs later I suppose, but why not do it now while it is all apart? Then you can drive it all motor, break it in, and be more than ready for your turbo setup.
