I'll probably ditch the quill stem and get a threadless adapter for a more modern look

Sweet ride. I had a 94-95ish Trek 820 Mountain Bike, low end but I always liked it.

Guys with multiple bikes, how are you storing them? I have 2 in the shed, but I have two more coming so I need to find a way where they won't be in the way. Need a small footprint if they were to go into the basement.

there are a lot of options

the simplest and cheapest would be just get hooks from home depot or wherever and a board to space them out on and hang them vertically

or 2 hooks per to get them a little higher up

or a stand alone rack

another option along these lines thats a lot more expensive but seems like it would be good is the SteadyRack by Gear Up
holds the front wheel and then folds out of the way

feedback sports also makes a similar solution for about 1/2 the price

there are racks that allow you to stack 2 bikes against the wall
there's a ton of these out there

The first two times I clicked on this attachment, it redirected me to the members lounge.

On the flip side, those bike hanging ideas are pretty neat

A lot of those would work great but I don't have a garage and my basement ceiling is like 6' in most areas. I'll have to do some hooks in the shed or put a few of them in the attic.

I upgraded to Shimano XT hydraulic disc brakes, raidon air fork, 10 gears in the back, and maxxis ignitor tires front and back. Raced my first race series. Month of mud in western pa. Came in about last place for every race, but ended up coming in 4th overall in beginner men. Pretty much I was 4th best at showing up. Plan to get in shape and come back strong next year. Need to tune in my front brake (it rubs detrimentally) and my front derailleur. It rubs a bit too in certain gear ranges. It was fun regardless of losing. There was a cyclocross race for 4/5. My very least favorite time I've ever ridden a bike. Running up a hill was miserable. Jumping hurdles was miserable. People made it fun. The unicyclists handed out licorice to the expert racers. A lot of people dressed up in costume. They made it fun.

The guy in the orange shirt was probably hurting after that. It looks like at least the last guy tried to roll.

Oh man... That faceplant capture is too awesome!! Lol

i'd like to think he left a nice face print in the mud, but comparing the 2 pics, it looks like his face landed right where 2 rocks were.
that blows, but great pics.

Took the Trek by my bike guy... Said it was a little big for me, but worth building around. Rear wheel is toast so he's going to lace up a new rim on the existing hubs since they match all the components. Going with a shorter quill stem and straight seat post since the one that's on it is setback and makes the reach longer.

Rear wheel on the Trek was fixable so I saved a little there. . Put a Nitto Technomic quill stem on it.. Also picked up another bike from my neighbor.. '79 Fuji.. long story short... Jen bought a schwinn hybrid from him for $45... it was a piece of shit and we didn't realize it at the time. Told him how much of a piece of shit it was and he said he'd trade it out for another bike... so now we have this Fuji and I'm planning on a singlespeed conversion with it

2015 mileage total = 3250
I put 2584 miles on the new bike (since March 25th)
:D :D :D

2016 goals:
  • probably going to stay around the same mileage wise (don't think another large jump will work in my schedule)
  • I would like to get 2 or 3 century rides in this year (the one I did was pretty awesome)
  • keep working on my hill climbing, may try a hill climb event (not really sure I'm there yet)

I put almost 800 miles on my fized gear this past year. I didn't ride my Allez at all really. Between coaching my sons baseball team and the 10 weddings I attended I didn't have much time for the open road.

Goals for me this year:
Get a pro fit for my Allez. Fairly sure the stem stem is a bit to long.
Ride at least 1k on both the Allez and fixed gear.
Do at least one 50 mile ride

So after a lackluster start my riding this year (bunch of family related stuff and stresses), my mileage was not at all where I hoped that it would be for the first 3 months. April was really good though... and I got my first century ride in last Saturday in NC.

Was a bit nervous again going in to this ride, not having the mileage so far this year that I had hoped for, but I ended up riding over 360 miles in April, got some hill rides in and got 2 67 mile rides in that boosted my confidence a good bit.

Went to NC with Bill (wildbillhatchbac) and Brian (B, Briansol) for the 2nd anual Bike the Banks ride, (they were going to do the 50 mile ride, I was doing the 100).

The day of the ride we got to the start a bit late. They were giving the pre-ride talk when we got there, and Bill and I still needed to register, so I got out on the road a little after the 8am start. Found a small group that was making a good pace on the way out to the first stop. Got to the first stop feeling great, about 30 miles in and I was averaging about 23 mph (NC's Outer Banks barrier islands are very flat, and I had a solid 15-20mph tail wind).

Left the first stop off and quickly lost one in the new small group I was with to a flat, then a few miles later found out the other 2 were only doing the 50 mile section and would not be joining me over the bridge to the mainland (shit). So solo it is... caught up to another rider about 45 miles in, paced with her, we caught up to another rider and pulled him along to the 2nd stop off. (About 6 or so miles before the 2nd stop I saw a bunch of the riders I ended up riding with the previous year coming back the other way, showing up late definitely fucked me as far as getting in a good group to pace with, and there was no way i was going to make up enough ground to catch them.) Pulled in to the 2nd stop and turn around point still feeling pretty good, 61 miles in now and averaging about 21 or so mph.

Here comes the fun part... that sweet tailwind I had is now going to be a ball busting headwind for the next 44 or so miles (shit). So off the 3 of us went from the 2nd stop off, quickly lost the guy we met up with, he dropped off and was never to be seen again, then a few miles later I signaled to have the lady I was with lead for a while, but she was gone too. So once again, solo it is... caught up with a pair of riders about a mile before the bridge back out to the island (about mile 78ish), paced with them for a bit, but quickly lost them on the other side of the bridge. Apparently I missed the last stop point, don't know what happened or how. I then caught up with another guy and rode with him for a few miles until I ran out of water/beverages with about 8-10 miles left, and needed to pull in to a gas station to get a refill. Refilled and rested for a few minutes then pulled back in to the wind.

Got back to the condo around 2:30pm with 105.5 miles on the trip meter at an average speed of 17.8mph, with just under 6 hours of pedaling. :)

I was tired, my legs hurt, and my butt was not happy... but I felt good... it was not an easy ride, but I made it, and did a large portion of it solo. :)

Loafed for a few minutes, then grabbed a cold beer, and got in the pool.

What the Outer Banks lack in hills, they make up for with a special kind of wind.

fuck that wind!

i fell 3 times. stupid clipless pedals and unprepared dismounts.... Bill kept wondering why i was on the ground again. :/

i hadn't ridden a bike more than a few min in a parking lot in legit 15 years so to sign up for a 50 miler on a borrowed bike was kinda going 'all in'. I had no real issues with completing it but i was glad it was over. 100 wouldn't have happened. the butt soreness was the major drag even with the shorts. I had a few slow sections (7mph) but got it back up to the 14mph average on the way back. Out was 17. peaked at 24. (I was on a flat-bar cruiser, not a road bike)

3.1 miles from our condo to the start line put me in at just a bit over 56 miles.
