yup, brake fluid = clutch fluid. just throw some dot 3 in there after you flush it.

drain it, flush it the best you can, and you should be fine.
 
This thread makes me want to build another honda/acura. Then I look at my bank account, then my insurance rates, then back to my bank account again. I like my bank account and insurance rates right where they are. I'm happy living vicariously through the young and energetic.
 
So I'm a fair bit tilted at the moment. The oil pan isn't leaking anymore. But now it appears that I may have had 2 leaks and only noticed the one because it was right in front of me. The rear main seal is also leaking so now I have to take the tranny back off to address that. Also the slotted an drilled rotors and pads i'd ordered came in and they're rears. I was gonna do the rears eventually but it was more of a money thing for down the road, rn i'm just trying to get this thing to the point I can drive it. So there's no use in returning them so I get to spend more money while those parts sit on the shelf till I'm ready for them. Hopefully after I get the rear main seal taken care of that'll shore up all my leaks and I can get back to business as usual.
 
Rear main is fixed and leak seems to be fixed. I had a coolant issue and found out that the engine shop didn't put an O-Ring on the coolant hose that connects the block to the thermostat. So seeing as the O-Ring i'd used out of our case (not an oem ring, but one that seemed like it would work) held tight on the thermostat side so I used the same blockside along with some white grease to help it slide in and hopefully take. IACV isn't working again but I had it working for a little bit.

So I have a question to the community,
My brother said the coolant lines to the IACV were more for northern places where it could get cold enough to freeze it with the air coming in and that I wouldn't need to cut and add lines to get it working proper, nor was that part likely enough to get hot (again, all according to him) I removed the mesh filter (per his suggestion, it was totally filthy) sprayed some brake cleaner in there and that fixed it for a little while. Now it's back to the like 500rpms almost dead idle to like 2.5k-3.5k fluctuating. When it was working right it was steady at 2k rpm which is a little hot but my brother said it's likely a result of the fresh rebuild and the ECU/motor just kind of figuring out how to work together.

Any other suggestions based on that as for how to fix the IACV?

Besides these things I'm getting it ready to drive ^^ slotted and drilled rotors (for the front this time lol) came in and I should be able to have everything in place to drive it home soon.
 
You should be able to look up a coolant line diagram , also you can get the thermostat sensor and iacv plugs mixed up too IIRC
 
Coolant lines are hooked up again. And best yet the whole system doesn't have any leaks at the moment. So now an issue I've encountered is that the idle was high (2.5k rpms) but steady for probably 30s-1min. Then it started surging faster than it ever has before. I found out my coolant temp sending unit is busted because it's either transmitting the coldest possible or the hottest possible so I need another one of those. My Speedometer is working again too so I'm really happy. Also spent about an hour hanging out with our new foreman (he's been with us for a couple years, always one of my favorites, treats me like more of a coworker than "bosses kid") so I'm riding a pretty big high rn. More progress to come later this week I'm sure.
 
More progress putting everything together. IACV is shot so thats $$$ I wasnt necesarrily planning on spending. Other than that it's all coming together

I do realize that, but the car is obd2 so if there's any trouble codes it is easy as plugging a scan tool in the point you in the right direction, can eliminate some head scratching
 
@dilbeckskate It's been converted to OBD1 buddy. The scanner simply says it has an idle error. It won't pull any specific codes. We cleaned the IACV and then manually tested it and it's basically stuck open.
 
UPDATE installed the new IACV and no more surging idle. Also got my intake system on and so far everything is nice and functional. Now it's (to me) the fun stuff. I'm gonna rewire my halo's so they're always on instead of coming on with the running lights, clean up the wiring inside the dashboard, get the radio working (if anyone has a diagram that'd be awesome but I'm sure i could find one) and clean up the rest of the harness. There's something therapeutic about wiring to me.
 
Drove it for the first time tonight, just around the parking lot. Timing is off, Idle is wonkey (not surging just really hot) but it was drivable. My coworker gave it a quick "tune" by adjusting the idle and timing so it hovers around 1300-1400rpms. Not much throttle response. I managed to not stall it out though which was fun. Transmission feels weirdly good for 190k miles, I was really happy about that. Honestly feels better than the s2k we had lol (the transmission). Full coverage insurance is going to be $410/6months through my moms policy using our friend that does that stuff but I need to look into insuring it for more than the KBB price or whatever they base it on. Riding quite the high right now though. Got some bodywork to do (fender and bumper) and then interiorwork and paintwork. Also my friend and her friend pulled a little prank on the Teg... I'll upload pics later.
 
They should have used wrapping paper!
