Hey guys so last year we over heated our 90 CRX SI real bad (stock d16a6 motor)

For this years race we picked up a Z6 head with injectors manifold etc still all mounted together for $40 off craigslist from a supposedly running car

We are looking to swap this Z6 head onto our A6 block. Im reading the dizzy will need to be modified. Is there any way to utilize vtec with our setup? Will the fuel stuff on the z6 work with the a6 ecu?

Any tips and advice is much appreciated im a newbie to this platfrom and am coming from the lsx platform. Car will be on high RPMS the whole time since we are racing it.

z6 dizzy should work fine with the z6 head if you can get one of those, far as I know firing order is the same across the board on D series motors you may need to advance or retard the ignition timing a little bit. You can get a VTEC ecu and splice the vtec solenoid wire it into the harness kinda like LS/Vtec but the single cam version (I think, someone else should be able to confirm). 40$ for a z6 head is absurd though i'd inspect it pretty thoroughly before you race it lol. Being familiar with the LS family of motor and their Lego-like qualities (as i call them) will help because the idea of interchangeable parts applies to Honda stuff too, take several pieces from different things and put them together for one unit of maximum efficiency. I've read good things about the d16a6 block but again make sure the overheating didn't damage the internals. d16a6 block and z6 head sounds like a winning single cam combination.

You will need a VTEC ECU to run VTEC. The ECU for that head is a P28.

The biggest obstacle is wiring. There are different methods but modifications will be needed for every sensor connection on that head/distributor. The cheapest is to repin and use the Z6 connectors on the CRX harness plus wire VTEC to the ECU. Diagrams for wiring are available online.

I am not sure but I don't think your intake manifold will bolt up correctly. You may need the Z6 IM/TB/sensors.

Make sure the head is straight (not some overheated, warped mess).

So we finished the swap and the car runs and idle fine.

gonna start a new thread in a second but were having issues with vtec engagement and lastly throttle response when the car is warm

Will i not be able to use my pm6 ecu and just run a vtec controller? (at the moment when rpm controller kicks in at 5k car bogs and drops rpms and then reactivates (trys to) at 5k then bogs (constant cycle)

Used the Z6 manifold and throttle body, only swapped my injectors to the A6 stock ones. Copmression test was done gave me 190,165,190,190

You can get your ECU chipped to handle the VTEC or get a P28. I want to venture to say the ECU is causing your issues at 5k.....but that's from my Internet chair here.
