Hey I'm new to this page. I'm looking to purchase a 93 del sol soon its had an engine swap recently it has a d16z6 now with headers exhaust aftermarket fuel rail pistons all new gaskets and all. But i was told it needs a p28 ecu to crank just wanna know if this is true are if I could be getting screwed with everything comes on in the car but when it goes to crank it just clicks one time and that's all it has the stock ECU in it now. And it also has an ostrich 2.0 performance chip that needs to be programmed that comes with it. Feedback would be appreciated

yes, p28 is the matched ecu for the d16z6. make sure you get a manual one.

is the car an S- trim model?
the Si came with the z6 stock.

The S model ecu WOULD start the z6. Just about ANY obd1 hone ecu would turn the car over/on. It may run like crap, not perform, but it would run.

It sounds like there's a potentially large wiring issue going on. a click is not normal.

Unless you're getting it dirt cheap, or REALLY know what you're doing, you're probably about to buy someone else's fuck up's/hack job. for the mods on the car, there's 0 need for a tune/chip, ,so if this guy can't get the car to run, i wouldn't trust him to know what he's doing tuning either.

Yes it is an S model. And he is selling to me for 900. Any tips on how I could find out what's wrong with it?

did you just say you are buying a p28 ecu for $900 and its not even a tune meant for your car/setup ? you can buy a vanilla p28, chip it, and get a pro dyno tune and spend less

that makes more sense lol at $900 the engine has NOT been rebuilt 110% maybe other than valve cover and oil pan gasket and a good cleaning , id bring a p28 with me and make sure it starts, if its a sol si its prob even stock motor, if not stock motor its 99% got 200k on it , and they had to reasoj to mess with wiring its the same obd generation other than adding vtec wires, no proof of rebuild it didnt happen, and that "chip" probably isnt real or its some bs shit only giving you problems

For 900 bucks, the CAR better be mint. like, no leaking door seals, good seats, clean interior, never been in an accident/etc.

at that price point, it's worth it. You can assume the engine and wiring is trash and still have a decent car with your own sourced z6 for ~1500 bucks.

I know the guy that is selling it he originally wanted 2000 but he letting me get it for 1000. He for sure did engine swap. Im buddy's with someone that helped with swap. I just wanna know about the ecu and stuff

in this case, it might be worth the investment of buying a p28.
plug it in and see that it runs. it should be 100% without error lights if the swap was done correctly.

vtec would have need to been wired in...
