i just swap in a b18c1 in my 98 civic, i have two problems, first one is when i rev the car past 5000 rpm, the check engine light come on, when i shut the car off and turn it back on its gone, it only come on when i rev it pass 5000. and my second problem is when the car between 2000 to 3000 rpm the car hesitate (feel like it going to stall out) when it passes 3000 it goes back to normal. does anyone know what the problem is?

i would love to know what your problem is because mine does the same thing. I have a 00 b16a2 swap in my 93 ex with a p72. Except my speedometer only wrks when it wants to . I did a full tune up and it still hesitates some times on acceleration.

did you check the code? The ecu stores codes, so it will tell you your problem

As for the hesitation down low, other then being a honda, it will have no bawls down low, check your timing. If it is off, it will cause you to hesitate like that.

Bad distributor, mixed up plugs, timing, bad motor, lots of possibilities. Check what CEL code it's throwing, and then work from there.

check the TPS also my bros car did tha same thing, got a check ingine at high rpms, it was the TPS

hope this helps :)

thanks, the only code im throwing is 23, i think that the knock sensor. and im goin to change the tps sensor and knock

if you are only getting code 23, just check the wiring for the knock sensor, or just redo it, as for the TPS, just check the voltage before replacining it, should be .5v closed and 4.5 WOT

as for the tps input. mine was busted when i did the swap.. so i put a hole throttle body on from a newer style ls motor. Is the voltage different ? can i still use this tps ?

Except my speedometer only wrks when it wants to .

check your electrical grounds and the power wire from the alternator.

get a p30 or a obd1 pr3

i will check the connections tomarrow at the alternator .. all wiring was converted near the alternator to obd1. I will also check the knock sensor. As for a p30 does anyone have one for sale ?? Im willing to trade my p72 for one also.

Hey I know this is a super super old thread but I am having this issue with my vehicle and was wondering if you ever figured out what was wrong. I have a stock automatic 92 DA

completely different ballpark being obd1 , but pull codes

Wont store a code in the ECU. When I turn the car off the check engine light goes away and doesn't come back until I go over 4000 RPM. Tried using paperclip at service terminal it blinks but there's no pattern to it and just continues to blink no pattern and they're very dim blinks. Tried switching my ECU out does the same thing on new ECU. New O2 sensor, new map sensor, new dizzy, spark plug wires. Checked all fuses good. Runs fine.

Changed spark plugs, checked timing using paper clip at service terminal according to manual, still the same. Check engine light comes on when accelerating at about 4k rpm. Only stays on till I restart the car, no codes stored... I should mention the car was sitting for about 7 years though. Had half a tank of old gas but I've already gone through it...

i'm assuming a 92 da is an ls b18b....

is it in any gear? try to accelerate to a faster speed without breaking 3k
