On September 20 2017, the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS took the title for fastest street legal sports car on the Nordschleife course.

2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS - 6:47.25

Beating the Lamborghini Huracán record by almost 5 seconds
Beating the Porsche 918 Spyder record by almost 10 seconds
Even beating the Radical SR8 LM's record of 6:48.28 that has stood since 2009 while other manufacturers just tried to act like they didn't exist.

Making it look easy and effortless in what might be the smoothest run I've ever seen

But still have to give credit to Radical for holding the title for over 8 years (even if no one wanted to admit you existed)

I thought I remember hearing a couple years back they weren't gonna announce the records any more.

Glad they are though.

I could watch that video a thousand times and still be enthralled by it every time.

Looks like he had some cornering issues where he was squealing the tires. I can only imagine the time if this badass made a 100% run instead of a 99.8% run. Props to the driver.

i think the trouble is that the start/stop on the ring is different for each record. although it is nice to see this record start and stop at the same point.

I'd like to see the Nurbrgring have a car and do a "stars in a reasonably priced supercar”.

Maybe every 2-3 years just switch up the car a bit. This would make an AWESOME show. It would need more than 30 minutes on cable, but something like 45 minutes on Netflix or Amazon would be awesome. Hell, I bet the car makers would have a death match for sponsorship rights and even pay for most of the production costs.

I have really been trying to resist trading the GTR on a used GT3 or Turbo S.. this doesn't help
