Did some basic maintenance tonight. Adjusted my accessory belt tensions and now they don't squeak. My power steering pump actually seems to be fine, I refilled the reservoir and it's not squeaking or hesitating anymore. My steering rack however is leaking. My brother said to just keep refilling it with Lucas Oil stopleak and see if that works, if not I have a new rack in storage that came with the car when I bought it.
BUT THE EXCITING PART!
I've been exploring some simple mods to squeak a few more ponies out of the little SOHC F22, but first I want to make sure that my motor, at 210k miles is at least healthy. I did a compression test when i had the plugs out, and across the cylinders I had 185-195-195-200, so the block is not only healthy, but almost in new condition (Honda recommends between 135 and 200).This supports my theory that besides the body damage, this car has been very well taken care of and driven easy.
So, now that I have a good block to work with, my plans.
Buy a F22a6 cylinder head from a 1992-93 Accord EX (100-150$)
buy an ECU from above car (100$)
Buy a H23 intake manifold (100-150$)
Greddy header from my storage unit, off my friends old F22b1 (FREE)
K&N drop-in filter (50$
Total cost 350-450$
Short term plan, simply swap the Camshaft from the F22a6 head (best OEM F22 cam), install the drop-in filter, and enjoy a few extra ponies. Somewhere along the line, I'm going to install the header and do the exhaust at the same time because the header is for an Accord, so the flange to the exhaust is different.
Long term, at some point the headgasket will go. I'm sure of it. So, I have a F22 head I can have machined and refreshed, and a H23 manifold I can have ported to match. The Accord ECU will allow me tune it (OBD1) and run the "butterflies" in the H23 man.
I have no interest in swapping the motor, I'm actually working on a bigger "go fast" project involving a JDM chassis and a LS motor, so this is just to make the 'Lude a little more fun while hopefully keeping the reliability I've enjoyed so far.
