Honda CVT transmissions

My wife has an HR-V. The transmission is really not bad, it's just slow.

We have a 2015 and really don't mind the CVT at all. When you first drive it it is a bit of a different experience, but I'm surprised by the people saying it slow.

My inlaws have a 2013, and that thing is dogshit slow compared to the 2015. We also have an 2004 CRV and I feel the 2013 is slower than that as well.

I definitely notice it from a stop, but also on the highway as the 2015 can go from 50-75 so much easier than the 2013 does. Maybe I'm in the minority, but if I could pick between the two I would pick the 2015 every time to drive over the 2013.

I'll also note that we have 65k miles on our 2015 with no trouble at all from the transmission. Outside of regular maintenance we've only had one issue and that was with the AC and it was covered under warranty.

Oops. CVT aren't meant to be driven by assholes. lol

I work for Honda, and have owned both a 2016, and the new gen 2017 CRV. The Honda CVT is very reliable. For me, the worst thing about them is the lack of torque converter torque multiplication and a tall true 1st gear. This makes them dogs off of the line. This also means they have terrible engine braking charictaristics at lower speeds. This is all especially true for the non turbo cars. Other than that, they offer aweosme roll on acceleration, and are very responsive at the stab of the gas once underway. Probably the best thing about them is the fact that they are amazing for pulling up hills because it can get the engine to an optimal rpm without making it obtrusive.
