The white-mess, my EM1 Si with a d16y8.

to me, it looks like an EJ8 chassis with an EM1 firewall swapped in, likely as a result of a prior accident.

What does the title say? it should have the vin on it.

This is some massive hackery. i'd be very scared to drive in this car for safety reasons.

VINs match on everything major. Title says Si. Insurance says Si. Nothing on the car says Si.

It def got hit, but everything is sound still. I think it got crashed (but not reported to insurance), cannibalized to make someone's DX/CX/EX a B-Swap car, then put back together with the remaining parts, some fenders, bumper, hood, and then swapped a y8 head on it.

It's odd, but I'm still gonna drive it. The monocoque is in good shape, interior is dirty, but will clean up, and the engine is fine.

Here's what it's got in the front:

Didn't have much time to do much tonight, so I got the codes cleared, the evap purge solenoid plug wasn't making a connection, so I cleaned it up, and then the code went away. Missfire codes went away after clearing them, and I idled it for about 45 seconds. We'll see if they come back, if they do, I'll swap the distributor. Plugs are good, look nice and fresh, wires have a date code of 2018, and look new, so it's probably either the distributor or the cap.

Also buffed out the junkyard headlight. It looked worse than the one on the bottom before I started. 500 grit, 800 grit, then 3000 grit, and finally some polishing compound. Then a couple shots of UV-filtering clear coat, and it looks pretty nice.

This thing even has the EX floormats, so I'm leaning towards complete swap, with everything. The wiring in the doors is there for tweeters, but the door cards don't have 'em.

The power windows, sunroof, and mirrors all work, but the power locks seem "weak" I'll charge up the battery overnight and see if that's the issue.

My wife doesn't like driving my RamCharger and it's not really car-seat friendly, then the CR-Z isn't exactly car-seat friendly either. Apparently now kids have to remain in a car seat seemingly forever, so it makes sense to have a second car capable of hauling the little girl.[/QUOTE]

They do seem to be in there forever and the seats take up a ton of room. Our Civic's passengers front seat is pretty much in the dashboard with a rear facing toddler seat behind it.

Good luck with the project.

Thanks, hopefully all the legos fit together, that's the only luck I really need, lol.

Lilly is in a forward facing seat now, which makes things a little easier to get her in there.

During lunch, I got the car washed, so I don't get filthy when I work on it, and the paint looks like it actually has a shine. It's single-stage garbage paint, there was no prep work done before spraying, so it's flaking off in some places. I think I'll just re-spray the bad areas, lol.

I also got the front end taken apart. The bumper is from yet another VIN, so that's cool.

I got the car's radiator support chopped up a bit more, the only area I'm concerned with is the front right section behind the right headlight. The rest of it looks easy enough to literally snap together, and plug weld the little bits on the crash-parts. Easier than TIG welding a dodge roof with upper respratory infection and bronchitis, lol.

The left headlight is actually full of water, so I'll have to pick up a left headlight somewhere, I'm not sure any were in the junkyard locally (they do all-you-can-carry for $47, or a wheelbarrow-full for $75) but I'm making a list of junkyard parts to go pick up over the weekend.

The new radiator support got here today, I haven't had time to do anything with it yet. All this body work is super stupid simple, god I love jellybean cars.

Currently, the list of parts I need from a junkyard are:
LH Headlight (one on it was broken and full of water)
Steering wheel w/o airbag module or switches
EX Airbox/Air Intake Arm

Hood release cable (can have broken pull-thing)
Door speakers
Fender Liners
EX/LX/DX/CX Grille

Door cards
RH Door switches

Front Floor Mats
Trunk-shelf trim pieces
Radio/HVAC Trim
Vent Trim
Driver's Kick Panel Trim
Exhaust header heat shield
1999 Si or EX Owner's Manual
If anyone has any of this floating around, hit me up. My coworker and I are going to a junkyard on Friday to see if we can pick up any of this stuff for cheap.

Got the old radiator support cut out, and the paint isn't horrible after a washing. I don't think this car was ever washed.

Here's what I was talking about with the body damage that isn't fender, isn't frame, and isn't radiator support. Just straighten this out, and it's all good? Lol.

I bet you can find a wrecked Si somewhere and swap all the parts over from it. :p

What's the plan for this? (sorry if that was already stated and I missed it)

Not in this area. I'm surprised this one wasn't listed as an Si, because that would have netted $1k more.

No plan. Saw it for cheap, it met my wife's requirements for another car (haul the toddler in it, safely) and it's a cheap and easy to work on car. I like civics. So here I am. Again. I was planning to do a mini-me swap (since I have 95% of the parts) but as it turns out, I don't need to in this guy.

If it gets to the point where I can't finish it, or don't want to, I can scrap it for what I paid, or sell off parts for waaaaay cheap and still make back what I paid.

I fixed the two chips in the windshield, using two different brands of chip repair kits.

Permatex Windshield Repair Kit PN 09103 from NAPA:
Setup is odd, because you have to stick the 3m VHB adhesive thing to it, then the funnel. It does draw a vacuum, and you can see the vac it's drawing. It seems like it works well, until you realize it only actually cures the resin that's in the center of the VHB doughnut. Easy to use, instructions are pretty clear. DO NOT PRESS ON THE VHB DOUGHNUT TOO HARD, YOU WILL CAUSE MORE CRACKS: Instructions don't mention this at all and it's kinda a duh moment. Doesn't fill all the spider cracks and only has one small cure strip. When cured, the chip is mostly invisible, only visible if you're within about 5 feet. A cop won't notice once it's all cured. -- 7/10.

Rain-X Windshield Repair Kit from Amazon.com:
Setup is super easy, and you can remove and reinstall to get it right if you don't get it centered right the first try. Don't over tighten the resin chamber, because it will tighten enough to cause damage. It does draw a vacuum as well, but it's not as strong and you can't see the chip outgassing from outside the car, you have to sit inside to see it. Don't over-dispense the resin, it's easy to do because the resin chamber is opaque. It fills the chip, cracks, and it is totally invisible. It includes enough curing strips to cover several feet of spidering cracks, and it makes them almost invisible. The resin with this kit seems thinner than the permatex kit. There's a lot more resin, and both the resin bottle and applicator is reusable. The crack totally disappeared after application. -- 9/10

These two products saved me a $300 windshield. If I had it to do again, I'd buy one Rain-X kit, and do both chips with it, since it was both easier to work with and did a better job, not to mention it contained enough product to do both chips.

False .... EX title says Si/EX and vin for EM1 also goes for EX , theres nothing Si on the car and DOUBTFUL somebody took the time to swap all the shiet over

Thanks for the info on the rock chip repair kits. I actually have the Permatex one sitting in my toolbox right now with intent to repair a chip on my 2000 Civic sedan's windshield.

While I appreciate the font of knowledge you have bestowed upon all of us as users of the internet, I regret to inform you that you're attempting to sow the seeds of misinformation. I, nor the users of the forum will allow you to bestow your falsehoods upon us.

1999 Civic Coupe EX chassis code is EJ8
1999 Civic Coupe HX chassis code is EJ7
1999 Civic Coupe DX chassis code is EJ6
and finally:
1999 Civic Coupe Si chassis code is EM1

Also, I'll post some more updates later today. Got a bunch of parts and a bunch of work done. In short, it's almost ready for paint.
