I got the body straightened out the other night, I'm going to use a legitimate body hammer and dolly/anvil sometime next week to get it all smooth and pretty, but the airbox goes there, so I'm not sure it's needed.

Got another headlight, less damaged steering wheel (still has some imperfections, but it's safe), a hood latch, the little trim bits for the LATCH anchors on the back shelf, and a complete EX airbox from a Salvage Yard for $66. Then picked up 5 gallons of used, filtered, and bottled antifreeze for $16. I spent a few minutes sanding, cutting, polishing, and buffing the headlight, and spraying some UV-protective clear coat on it, and it looks just as good as new, like the other reclaimed headlight.

Then, I picked up a MIG welder, because I'm not about to TIG weld a radiator support into a civic...

The AC condensor coil is leak-free, it still holds what looks like a full charge, once I get the cooling system squared away, I'll do some superheat tests to see if it's properly filled. I got the new radiator in, fan on, and cooling hoses all put on. What's left now is to fill and bleed the cooling system.

I worked on the hood latch for longer than I'm proud to admit. Apparently the radiator support's hood latch hole wasn't fully formed, so the actual latching lug on the hood kept banging it, and not allowing it to close. I needed to fix the hood alignment, but didn't realize it until it was too late. The wooden prop is because I'm lazy and was using it for other things, the

I have a new passenger fender, I think I'm going to wait on the body work until I get some more free time. This next week is going to be kinda crazy with all the Easter stuff going on, and there's just not time for body work -- even if it is single-stage white paint, lol.

Maybe I'll have time to fill the cooling system before Easter, but I'm not counting on it.

Sure beats my $2200 ish into the Kia plus my time. Ugh

My wife doesn't like driving my RamCharger and it's not really car-seat friendly, then the CR-Z isn't exactly car-seat friendly either. Apparently now kids have to remain in a car seat seemingly forever, so it makes sense to have a second car capable of hauling the little girl.
I would argue that the CR-Z is probably more crash-worthy than the Si given the decade advance in engineering and crash safety standards. :)
This is some massive hackery. i'd be very scared to drive in this car for safety reasons.
This too. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much has been swapped around for me to be comfortable with it. But given how much attention you're paying to it as you get it ready for driving, I'm sure that you'll find any major showstoppers before you put it on the road. I'd almost be scared the thing was a half-cut. :p
Oh, total parts and consumables cost as of today is $315.
Nice! Easier when you have all those tools. ;)

My guess is it was stripped after one of its accidents (like the swap and cluster) then put back together with the mini-me swap and DX cluster. Maybe firewall change like B said but I'm thinking its an Si that was pieced back together like a true monster of Frankenstein. She's been places no matter what.

Yeah, the cr-z is better than the Si, but the cr-v is better that the cr-z. It's also about putting a car seat in the rear with a passenger, which I can't do with the CR-Z.

The first thing I looked at was the monocoque to ensure it wasn't a half-cut. The VIN stampings match, have the factory paint and body seam sealer where it should be. I'm not worried about it, it's a crash car, but it hasn't been hacked together, they skimped on paint and that's it. It was fixed with original Honda parts the previous crash.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to buy some tools, but I needed to get a MIG because of the number of times I said to myself "This job would be so much easier if I just had a MIG welder." and because I really wasn't looking forward to TIG welding crash parts into a car, lol.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Someone probably crashed it, needed money, so they traded all the Si parts for an mash-up of a DX/EX interior, engine, and transmission parts. The firewall is original, that was one of the first things I checked when I looked, along with looking for things out of place along body lines, etc. This isn't the first time I've bought a used car, lol.

I think we can all agree, this is slightly beyond the normal range of "buying a used car".

I've only ever bought used cars. None of them have ever made me think: 'I should buy a new welder'. :lmao:

Hahaha, true. It's not just a used car, it's a $300 used accident-car that needed what I paid to be road-ready.

ETA:
In other news, this needs shifter bushings TERRIBLY. It returns to "neutral" position no matter what gear is selected. I honestly can't remember ever having seen a civic with the shifter bushings this beat.

This kind of work isn't outside the norm of what happens in a low to moderate speed car accident. If you tap someone at 20mph, this is what a body shop is going to do. Granted, they're gonna have some fancy measuring tools, a lot of experience, and it's going to look a lot better when done, but meh. $300 civic.

So, I got the RH fender painted with the wrong color paint, but it's the right color for the LH fender, so who knows, I might just spray the whole car with Rustolium Appliance Epoxy, lol. Paint was $20, so that brings up the parts/consumables total to $335.

Bumper, headlights, fenders, etc. are all fitted up. Something wrong with the hood, I suspect the hood hinges are bent/mangled. I'll see what those are going to cost, because I may just "open up" the bolt holes on the current ones, or re-bend it back. The fit up of everything is garbage, but whatever. I'm not concerned with it right now, I just want to get some miles on it so I can see what else it needs.

Without further ado, I present to you the $635 Honda Civic Non-Si Si:

I may or may not have driven it up and down the road a bit. The steering is nice, suspension is good, power is what I'd expect, maybe a little more, brakes stop well, no grinding/screeching/thumping, or anything odd from the transmission. No check engine lights after 20 minutes of idling while filling up the radiator, still none after 15 minutes of driving, and it actually says emissions check ready now, lololol.

Doesn't smoke under load, under decel, or at idle.

A/C blows ICE COLD.

Now I'm gonna pay some crackhead to clean the interior, throw a different steering wheel on it, and get it tagged.

I scored on eBay. I got a passenger side interior mirror trim piece for $10, and a manual transmission cluster with tach for $25.55.

Now I just need to get it inspected and tagged.

So, I accidentally reset the ECU Codes tonight after work, so I've gotta drive it again. All of the Emissions Readiness DTCs were Complete, which sucks now that they're not, because I was going to try to get it emissions tested. Stupid interface on some beta of an OBD2 app caused this to happen. :(

QYb2WT4.png

I'm going to try to go to the DMV tomorrow to get the title transfered, get it temporary tagged so I can get it inspected, and start driving it around to see what's all broken on it.

The screenshot I posted is Torque Lite, the app I was using when I accidentally reset the ecu was called OBDclick.

Got some tags today. 2 hours of my life gone...

Worst part is that they're temp tags, so I get to do it again in a month, lol. But, this let's me do a shakedown before I get it inspected and such.

Looks like she'll pass emissions!

q62pW2q.png

In Maryland you're allowed to have two DTCs unset/pending on a pre-2000 car and you'll pass. TBH, I think you can actually have two fails, lol.
