Does this car have a salvage title, or will you have any problems getting it registered with the accident? Just curious if it would be easy to get it tagged.

Nope, clean title, no brand. It's already tagged, lol, I got that done yesterday.

hondash is nice

Yeah, I just did some research on it, it looks like it's more of a "leave this connected all the time" kind of device. All I needed was something to tell me DTC readiness and scan for codes.

I suppose I lucked out, because there aren't any persistent codes, lol.

Current issues with the car, in no particular order:
  1. Passenger door electrics don't work, not getting voltage, I hope it's not the harness, no power window, no power mirror.
  2. Throttle pedal sticks in the 0% throttle position.
  3. The driver window is sluggish rolling up or down, I think that's because the previous owner greased it with farm implement grease.
  4. It's missing a bunch of clips, so it rattles a little over harsh bumps.
  5. Driver indicator bulb doesn't do the "running light" thing, there is something wrong with the socket or wiring at the bulb end.
  6. Still filthy, despite a whole super-roll of paper towels.
  7. Needs a couple trim bits, and speakers that work.
  8. Obviously needs paint, fender liners, and a grille.
  9. Might need some suspension components? Not sure where yet, it clunks and I think it might be an upper ball joint or shock.
  10. Brake rotors are warped.
  11. Parking brake needs adjustment.

Probably more, as I drive it more.

for the brake rotors, try a few panic stops to heat them up and clean the transfer layer, then coast it around for a few minutes.
Thanks for that, it worked. Cross 8 off the list.

1. Passenger door issue is probably the harness... I tested everything at the plugs last night. I suspect the accident that collapsed the right fender also did some damage to the wiring.
2. I'm gonna go clean the throttle body later tonight, I think it's just carbon buildup.
3. Driver's window is sluggish because of the super-thick grease used, and I think it just needs cleaning all that grease off. If not, I suppose new tracks/seals aren't that expensive. I think the seal is probably shot because of the grease, but I'll try cleaning it.

9. It's almost certainly engine mounts. I'm almost positive the engine mount rubber is shot in a few mounts. I can make the engine move quite a bit under slight throttle movement. So I may be doing the "window weld" trick soon.

Now the next problem... I think it's just been so long since I felt FWD torque-steer that I've forgotten what it is:
Under Acceleration, it tugs right.
Under Deceleration, it tugs left.
Both ways it's noticeable, I have to adjust the steering wheel to counteract it. Maybe it's bad engine mounts, maybe it's not? :dunno:

well considering its got under 100ft lbs of tq id say its not torque steer you are feeling lololol IMO sounds like you have a sticking brake caliper in the front or a axle/bearing issue

Respectfully, I disagree. It doesn't have any brake caliper problems.

Bearings are fine, no play in them under load or no load.

It might be an axle issue, perhaps you can elaborate on what you mean by axle issue?

lol we can agree to disagree but "torque steer" is not what you are feeling I assure you ... its a sub 100whp/tq economy car , ive seen personally having like 1 new well balanced axle on one side and a old worn out one with ripped boots on the other cause pulling issues esp driver axle . But it also can have 0 caliper issues and have a collapsed ya know 20 year old brake line on one side and cause pulling too

probably not torque steer. on older cars i've experienced the same issue. the kia would do this before i swapped everything up front to brand new. its worn out components, things shift forward and back when you accel and brake. start with the mounts since those will translate the most movement against the suspension and work your way out.

have you had it aligned?

Fix the engine and trans mounts. also check the inner cv joints for play while you are at it. bad mounts are the most common cause for your issue. bad mounts also do bad thing to the inner cv joints.

One engine mount is bad. The passenger side looks to be the original one:

So I've got a new one coming. The driver's side has been replaced recently, it still has the mold flash on it, so I'll leave that one unless it looks like it needs it. $16 for two, so I'll just hang onto the new one.

In other news, both of the steering rack boots are torn, so that's gonna be fun. Hopefully it doesn't needs a rebuild.

If you take the boots off the steering rack take a close look at the internals. I don't remember if it applies to this generation of civic but I know on the 4th gen steering racks there is a plastic bushing in the passenger side of the rack body that wears out and can cause shake and wobble that feels like bad cv joints or warped brake rotors.

Good to know. I'll get it on jackstands and see if I can figure out what it is. I need to replace the power steering boots anyway, so I'll check bushings when I do that.

Veering/pulling is a inner tie rod end, new one will arrive by the weekend.

Engine mounts will be here by next Tuesday.

The sloppy shifter is because of the bushing in the bottom of the shifter, not the transmission side, so, uh, yeah. I had to get creative...

Electrical tape ftw. Eventually I'll pick up an eBay short shifter to fix it permanently.

I went to harbor freight because we happened to be down that way today, and picked up their tie rod removal tool kit. Holy moly, that made the tie rod removal and reinstall easy. No pictures, but I'll make a video of the joint's play. It had about 1/4" or 7mm.

Next up is the right power steering boot, and axle.

I made a list of the things I have to get done by Wednesday to pass the safety inspection. It looks like a lot more work now that i get it all written down... I have until the 15th to pass the safety inspection.

A lot of these are just "throw parts at it" because I have everything I need, except for a few items that seem like they just need repairs not replacement parts.

My only concerns are:
Passenger door electrical work
Driver Side front turn signal (I think it's just a bad connector/socket, but haven't tested yet)
Windshield (there's a 3/4" long crack that the permatex crack/chip kit didn't take care of, and may take some work to get filled)
Wipers don't return to resting position.
Rear drum emergency/parking brakes need either adjustment, or rebuild. The driver's side seems like it just needs adjustment, passenger side doesn't seem like it needs anything.
