Here's the video of the stupid tie rod. Now the steering pull/slop is all gone.

I got nothing done today, except fix the shifter bushings. Now it's totally solid, but not for lack of swearing... Both rear bushing bolts broke, so I had to drill them out. Good times...

Axle maybe tomorrow?
I need to get some metric bolts for the threaded holes on the rear brake drums to get them adjusted. Maybe I'll get that done too.

If I'm gonna get this thing ready to pass inspection next week, I need to get on it.

Got the new axle in. Didn't spill a drop of transmission fluid because I jacked up the passenger side like 2ft off the ground, lolol.
Unfortunately I messed up the thread on the lower ball joint castle nut though, so it's gonna sleep on jack stands tonight.

I'll get the ball joint castle nut tomorrow, then work on the steering boot after I get that together.

I got the driver's window track grease cleaned off, and put some DuPont Teflon lube all up in it, and now the Driver's window works great. So, yay.

When I replaced the steering wheel yesterday, I got it one tooth off, so it isn't centered, oops. Gotta get around to pulling the wheel again.

I found a set of thread files, and got the ball joint threads fixed, but I still need an m12x1.25 castle nut.

Win some, lose some.

I drove around during my lunch break for like 45 minutes today, because nobody had the castle/slotted nut for the lower ball joint...

So, I just bought a new ball joint, and I'll have a spare, lol.

Got her back together, and hopefully tomorrow night I'll get the steering boot put on, and then finally be done with the front end, so she's still on a jack stands for now.

Hopefully I'll have time to get the wiring on the passenger door at least exposed so I can look at it and see what's broken, then figure out how to fix it.

Got the steering boot/bellow on. Did a half-assed job cleaning the throttle body. Did a tape-measure toe alignment, it's as close to 0 as I could manage, and the steering wheel is centered now.

The list is getting smaller:

I guess I'll work on the rear brakes next, then the passenger door.

I got a P28 and @B's old tuning gear today. No socket from Moates yet though, and I don't have one on hand, so that'll have to wait for a bit.

I drove her into work today. Whoah Nelly, she needs an alignment, lol.

The farm implement grease in the window tracks/guides that survived cleaning is making the window bog down again... I hope I don't have to buy a new rubber window guide, maybe I can get a tube of Shin-Etsu grease and make it all better.

Got it aligned, and had an inspector look at it.

He said with the windshield crack, it's failed. No way around it, so I'm going to have to get it registered Historic. :(

Historic tags are ugly, but oh well. I wasted $20 on 30-day tags, and $14 on emissions testing, but now I know I don't have to worry about inspection anymore, because I'm not going to spend $300 on a windshield.

Also got the stuff from Moates today, so the ECU is getting socketed, and then I'll get a decent d16y7/y8 street tune on it, then move on to the Chinese Choo Choo.

So, about that, I picked up an almost complete turbo kit from about 2005 from a buddy for doing his home HVAC stuff. Horray for side-work paid in car parts!

Gonna get it mocked up at some point to figure out how much I'm going to have to move around the AC stuff to make it all fit. Probably not this weekend, because now that the weather is good, friends are having cookouts and stuff.

RIP Clayton... :(

Last night I got a chance to test the window switches, lock lock switches, mirror switches, motor, mirror motors, and window motor. They're all good, and work with external power, but still no workie. I've been using Honda ServiceNow and it's not covered, lol.

The door is getting power, but seems like it's got no chassis ground? Power window switch gets 12V when the ignition is on and switches correctly.

Did the Si have any kind of factory security system that did anything with windows?

Looks like I get to pull more trim and find the floor harness ground points.

who keeps deleting my torque steer comments ? lolol glad to see progress is being made soo fast on this thing

Got the window and mirror working. Floor harness ground is all crusty, and I'll going to have to get a new bolt and re-crimp/terminate that ground. The window works, but it's a little slow, I'm not sure if it's the track, motor, or the wiring/ground. I got some silicone grease in the rubber tracks and it's a little better, but I still suspect the ground, then maybe the motor.

Got a new hood cable installed, I replaced the latch too, but somehow it doesn't fit, so that'll be fun to swap back out with the old one... Not looking forward to that.

Started to get a tune put together for whenever the obd2b to obd1 harness gets here.

IMG_20190503_164723.jpg

My daughter is super interested in learning how to tune, but she's two, so I don't know how long the engine would last if she wrote the tune, lol. Instead I think she'll just watch.

Don't buy the $30 sets of fender liners on eBay. They're garbage. Total garbage. I'm going to have to buy a set from a junkyard instead, because they're totally unusable.

Also, it still pulls a little under acceleration and braking, but I think I'm just being picky here at this point, it's not really even noticable, just a feel thing. I'm probably just spoiled from driving nice cars for the past decade, lolol.

Got the wiring harness a few days early, so it looks like this weekend I get to see how bad of a tune I can burn. :D

Gonna get that passenger ground cleaned up, replace the hood latch, get a wideband installed, figure out data logging in crome/whatever, and find my inverter so I can keep the laptop running.

Now that I know I can't pass inspection, the list is only gonna be a reminder of things I should do at some point, with the exception of the brakes... That could get scary if I don't.

IMG_20190504_200830.jpg

And here's the turbah brah. Only the finest chinesium eBay had to offer circa-2005.

I know I *should* put a fresh head gasket and studs in now, but I'm curious... So I'll just do a compression test when I put colder plugs in, and see what I'm working with.

To anyone wondering, this engine doesn't seem like it's got 212k on it judging by the gunk in the head, but it may considering the head is a y8 and the block is a y7. Oh well. We'll see.

I'll clean the engine, suspension, transmission, and then take it to the 1/4 mile track near my house on a test and tune night and get a timeslip as a baseline. That should be interesting, lolol.

ETA:
Couldn't help myself. Got the ECU in, and she starts fine, idles a little high, but she starts and idles with the d16y7/8 basemap I put together based on a z6, y7 and y8 basemap.

Has anyone heard of or used BMTune?

http://www.bmtune.com/

It looks like this guy is actively developing it, which is a plus compared to the other folks making tuning software. I still believe Hondata is just rationing features they knew they "had" for the past 10-15 years, and Crome is dead (but still works), so this might be an OK option?

What's up with the automatic cluster?

Cheapest way to get a tach was an automatic cluster and move the odometer over. Lol. I got that one for $25.52 shipped.

The driver window switch assembly has a bad passenger switch. So, that's going to be fun finding in a salvage yard.

I got some rattle can paint on the hood, but ran out, so it's not perfect, but it'll work for now. I think I'm going to get a quart of satin tractor paint and respray the whole car satin white. Maybe it'll come out decent. If not, who cares, lol.

I've been soaking the exhaust bolts with PBlaster every night, so hopefully they'll come off easily to mock up the turbo manifold.

The front rotors are warped, I don't think I can get the shimmy under braking out by panic stops, lol. I've tried getting on 'em pretty hard and that's just not fixing it. It's got the 10.2" EX/Si front brakes, so that's nice.

I got the parking brakes adjusted, and she feels like she might actually stop if I needed her to panic stop, and I think it's time to get a baseline pass. I just need to clean off some of the oil all over the engine/engine bay so I can pass tech, lol.

Did a compression test tonight too. Unfortunately I didn't get the engine up to full operating temp, so the actual numbers are garbage, but good news is that they're all exactly the same. So, cold and dry, 145psi across the board, not even one pound of variation. Cold and wet, 155psi, again, no variation. Which is 9.8-10.5 to 1 compression ratio, so all's good in the engine as far as I care.

stinks about the rotors...
Yeah, but the plus is that rotors are pretty cheap, and easy to replace.

Just a few things left on the list.
IMG_20190508_065613.jpg

The paint laid pretty well on the hood, I'm gonna go over it with some brillo pad, then lay some new paint later this week after the drag strip tonight (as long as I don't blow something up). I'll start masking everything next week to get ready to paint it for real. I can buy the same paint I've already used in rattle-can in quarts so I can use a gravity-feed gun to spray it, or I suppose I could

I really need door cards. Uff. I don't want to spend the money, but I think I'm going to have to spend it eventually. About $200 is standard for driver door cards/panels, and I'll just try a fiberglass/resin repair on the passenger one.

Got a new wiper motor/regulator assembly for $16, I'll get into that replacement at some point. I don't like driving this thing in the rain anyway, because it doesn't have fender liners.
