I have a 96 cx hb with 98 JDM B18c with i/h/e and AEM fuel rail, fuel regulator, cams gear, and JDM H22 injectors, and a 98 JDM type r ecu. I know that all of these mods are insinifficant to my guestion but i just list them for info. anyway, my guestion is...would it be safe to shift at 8.5RPM???? I also installed an ex cluster which the RPM goes all the way to 8.5RPm. everytime I race, I shifted at 8.5RPM which indicate on the ex cluster. By having the type r ecu on, I realized power gain when shift at 8.5RPM. Since my stock motor, camshafts, valvtrain, and ecu are designed to revv up to 8RPM would it be safe to shift at 8.5RPM? I know that in order to revve pass your stock revv limit you must have upgrade camshafts and valvtrain. I had been shifting at 8.5RPM and experience no problem at all, so I just want have some external opinion by the experts in here. Sorry to ad another guestion but....where did you connect your wires for the tachometor to get the most accurate shifting point as your cluster RPM? I have a 5" tac shift light too, but its not accurate. Its off by like .600RPM so I didnt use it as my indicator when to shift and will be remove soon. thanks in advance for your opinion.

My USDM 2000ITR redline is at 8400 and fuel cutoff is at 8500. Your engine can handle it trust me. I rev it up to 8200-8400 at least once a day. At least!

He doesn't have the ITR valvetrain. Just keep it under 8200 if you can.

He only said B18C, so he maaay have a ITR motor, but maybe a GSR, that would have been the important info. Since he didn't mention anything about bypassing the IABs with the ITR ECU, just a thought.

Sorry for the confusion, my motor is a GSR B18C JDM not the type r. As I mention in my post, I always shift at 8.5RPM when race and have no problem. However, I will keep it around 8.2RPM the revv limit of GSR until I install skunk2 Stage II camshafts then I will move my shift point to 9RPM. thanks for all the input.

With those Skunk2 stage 2's make sure you upgrade your valvesprings and retainers!

Wow. You shouldn't be revving that high at all. I have a JDM GSR motor and I shift at 7700-7800, peak power is around 7600, even with bolt-ons. Besides, GSR valve springs only hold until 8200, if you're revving to 8.5K, you are gonna float a valve eventually. Also, you really shouldn't be using the P73 ECU unless you have the Skunk2 intake manifold. If you are still using the OEM dual stage unit, the P73 isn't opening your IAB butterflies and you are losing some extra power. Just thought I'd put that bug in your ear.

JDM ECU's are overrated, dude. The JDM and USDM P73's are identical except the JDM ECU's governor is at 112mph. There might be a slight difference in fuel mapping because of the higher compression, but whatever.

they are also tuned to run off higher octane gas. around 96-98 octane i beleive

No.... 98 RON isn't too far off from our 93 octane over here. We measure our octane as RON + MON / 2. Find out the JDM average MON value and you can figure out how most of their gasoline compares to ours... or just find out our RON value and you'll be good too.

DOHCH22A4---> Thanks for all the advices. my top speed was 120MPH with GSR ECU and 130MPH with type r ecu. I took the air valcuum line off so the second butterfly remain opens all the way and as a result of this, I noticed that my car run faster than having the second vtec stage. the whole point of having the type r ecu is to eliminate the second state vtec of the GSR. thanks again you guys for all the skillful advices. I will shit at 8.200 from now on until I install that skunk2 stage II camshafts alone with valvtrain and JG intake manifold. thanks.....

HAHAHAHA, that's very funny. I didnt realized that I missed spelling SHIFT. COMON GUYS, ITS GOOD TO SHIT AT 8.2 EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE HEHEHEHEHE. HAVE FUN GUYS
