What is the best oil to use?

Hey, I'm wondering what kind of oil I should use for my GSR motor? Its a daily driver but I also do a lot of hard driving with it. And what is a good oil filter? I heard royal purple is good, but expensive, and quaker state has some good stuff too, so any help would be awesome or if anyone has used any kind of oil they liked

Royal Purple is somewhat expensive but way worth it. i use it with an oem filter.

I'd go with quaker because of the cool ad with the WRX STi.

most synthetics are similar, i always get recommened to use Mobil 1.

i've always used Castrol synthetic blend, i wouldn't go to say its the best, but as for the use its great, i can't afford royal purple since i change my oil once a month. my dad uses dino castrol, and he does 130 miles a day, he changes his oil every 3k, he has a 2001 toyota echo 1.6 dohc and he's @ 180K miles to date. his oil still comes out just as clear as he puts it in, its freggin crazy.
i would ask you what your use is, because if you have just a daily commuter, a less expensive oil will do just fine, usually a more high performance motor is going to require something really good. i guess what i'm saying, is if you haven't overhauled the motor and tweeked its specs to run higher hp, i would doubt if you need such a performance oil. just my thought, i could be wrong, but just thinking logically.

well im going to be using the car for drag races in August, and I do also do some racing every so often, but mobil 1 seems to be a good choice for everyone, and royal purple is a little expensive if im mainly using my car as a daily driver.

this is totally true, if you put your engine through streeses beyond what it was buiilt for. i.e turbo charging, or driving 200 miles everyday, then a better oil would make sense yet, i can't see putting royal purple or similar synthetic into a dd, even if you car has I/h/e why use the craziest oil out there, it may be similar to 93 octane vs. 91 or 87 if your car doesn't need it why waste the money. if you change your oil often enough and don't your engine is not running exceptionally hot just use whats economical and make sure to change it when it is needed.

k&n makes the 'best' filters, but i would say a fram would be fine.

EXACTLY...that was my point on the head. don't get me wrong, Royal purple is awesome stuff, but not needed for a DD.

i use mobil one. if your gonna race it go put royal purple. Its said to change the oils after racing it. I wouldnt like to spend an assload of money on oil only to drain it withiin a week or so. just stick to mobil one dude

I ran regular old penzoil in my old 99 si up till I sold it at 130k miles. Never had any oil problems whatsover.

I'd go with Mobil1 ... manufacturers've recommended it before... I've used Redline synthetics.
Regardless, I'd always been told Civics have a sensitive at the oil pan pickup and need frequent oil changes.
I drive the piss outta my POS & it's never left me broke.

I've used Redline products, no noticeable difference for a daily driver over even Castrol GTX. I use Mobil oil exclusively now. I used mobile dino oil for break in, and then switched to mobile 1 after about 3000 miles. I used only Maxima synthethic in the R6, and when I get another bike, that bike will also only get maxima. For the most part, I've been told that it doesn't matter what oil you use in your engine, as long as you stay with the same brand, because different oil companies use different detergent, and when you mix oil brands, that can accellerate sludge formation. Don't know how reliable that info is, but I've stuck to it, and never had a problem. My dad runs castrol gtx in his 05 corolla, and ran it in his 00 corolla, and the oil came out almost as clean as it went in every time.
