Default 91' Prelude Si, h22 engine swap questions, please help!

Hi everyone, I am the owner of a very clean 91' prelude Si, the only problem is I threw a rod through the engine block, and now have to swap in a new engine. Id like to put in an h22 as I have heard from everyone that they are fast. the only problem is, Im not sure about all the different h22 engines and mounting parts. whats the difference between an h22 vs an h22a vs an h22a1 vs whatever other h22 engines there are? will they all fit into my car? If so, which is the best? What kind of mounting parts will I need? And last but not least, what is the difference between a JDM (I don't even know what JDM is) engine vs. regular? As far as I know, I only need to buy the engine and whatever else I need for mounting. Im very sorry for being such a Noob at engines and asking so many questions, I will really appreciate any help on this matter.

The transmission that's in your car will not bolt up to an H22; you'll need an H or F-series transmission as well as the engine, ecu, custom mounts, and wiring.

As far as the difference between US-spec engines and JDM engines go, they're not really very significant. JDM just means that it was taken out of a car in Japan as opposed to a car in the States. JDM engines usually have a few more horsepower than their US counterparts, but nothing really significant (think like 200 horse as opposed to 190).

u will need new mounts, wiring harness, axels, u pretty much will be better off getting a B20a which is the jdm version of the motor that is in your car right now and its a direct swap into it now and it will cost significantly less than an h22 and its a LOT easier, u will be making about 145hp stock

prelude rider, what if he did a crv vtec since he is looking for some more power. It wont be as hard as putting the h22 in and he would have close to the same power. I know he what's a little more than 145 hp. I think he should do the crv vtec and get him a b16 tranny.

because there are no mounts for the CRV motor available for this lude. other b-series swap have been done with custom one off mounts. but it is actually more work and more money than an H22 swap. take into condsideration that there are already H22 mounts and axle for this lude. that by itself makes the whole thing easier. trying to swap in a B20c would mean getting custom one-off mounts (big $$$). Using a B16 tranny would mean changing over from cable shifters to rods (headaches). converting from obd1 to obd2 is easy but for a beginner can be a huge headache. then there's the axles. do you mix and match or spend more $$$ to get some made to fit.condsidering how prices for H22 are steadily dropping. it would be wiser to do the H22.

Ok, first of all the H22 now fits into the tiny engine compartment we have. I have had the engine mounts produced which takes the big headache out of the majority of the swap.
The Engine wiring harness is now available for this swap so that takes care of that.
The axles are now made by two different companies as well.

You may use the stock P13 H22 ECU or get a chipped P28.

You can keep powersteering, and A/C, and if you want, even cruise control.

You are limited to how low you are able to drop the car, preferrably 1.5", keep in mind the tranny, oil pan and downpipes are about 1" lower than stock. So please be sure to do your reading.

With the H22 mounts you are also able to use the F22 engine and manual tranny. So that gives all of you out there another option for swapping motors, however, the wiring has not been tackled and axles might be off as well, but I am sure that many of you will read up on it before trying the swap.

i just took a b20a out of my 91 si and just dropped a ls/vtec b18 in it andvtec isnt even kicking in and at about 140 hp it will still outrun the b20a but if you got the doe do the h22a if not just do the b20a there still good engines especially on bottom end

The B18 has been done on a custom setup up from a couple people. As far as a mass production of the engine being dropped in, it has not been done yet.

I have asked around to see how many people wanted to do the project and the response was low.

When I asked how many wanted to have the H22 dropped in, I was able to have produced 80+ sets. And now more and more people want he H22 compared to the B18.

The B20A5 is a good motor to boost to get any real power out of them, and its torque curve is almost the same as horsepower it makes.
On a stock block you can make 400+ whp. OF course thats after you upgrade the rods, pistons, rings, and have the head parts upgraded as well.

But on stock internals depending on the condition of the engine, it can boost 180-200whp on stock internals and 225whp depending on tuning.

yea but its hard to find internals for the b20a and it puts out good torque but they dont seem to last as long as the h22 or b18 they wear out fasterand i know you can run 10 lbs. of boost on a stock b18 and it holds the power but i havent heard of anybody doing the b18 swap in a 3rd gen. lude cause i talked to some people and they wouldnt touch it but me and my dad have done it but the only problem is time to make every thing exact fitment do you know any one thats done that swap before. i looked it up on the internet on forums and havent found anything but we have to rewire it to obd1 just use the stock harness for the b20a and add what we need using a p30 computer i just got into imports im 17 with little money im buying everything workin at a minimum wage job until i get out of school but let me know if you run across anyone that has done this swap thanks, Sammy
