Thumbs up turbo + roadracing = good?!

i have a 96 ej8 coupe that i'm going to start building. i've been wanting to get into road racing for a few years now, but have never got the chance.

i am going to run a sleeved b-series with turbo setup. probably a gsr transmission with type r lsd. i am unsure of the turbo right now... either my cousins 50trim with full boost at 3k or maybe something a little bigger like a 35r.

do any of you guys run a turbo'd road race car? or even auto x ? im very interested to see what your guys' thought are on this. thnks

get with your local hpde coridinator. MANY (in fact, MOST) events disallow non-factory turbo cars on their tracks.

it depends on the track.

the road course here lets you race swapped cars (ie sr20det 240's).

the key for road racing is really your suspension, brakes, and tires. work on that stuff before you start getting into turbos and power numbers. a built na b-series will do just fine on most tracks.

brakes and suspension along with learning how to drive will make you faster than any power adding modifications you can do

+1

also as b said check in to the rules and see if they even allow a aftermarket turbo car on the track. I dont have any problem with runing my turbo car a road course not to far from here.

Your best up grades to your car for the road course in this order are
1 Tires
2 Suspension
3 Brakes
4 HP...

then you want a smaller fast spooling turbo to pull you out of corners and makes power over a broad range
you dont want a laggy peaky turbo

you'll be FAR more competitive in an all-motor car.

just something to keep in mind.

onc eyou boost, you're pretty much in the unlimited class, running with viper ACR's and shit that you won't ever have a chance at being remotely competetive with.

losing dead last everytime will kill your ambition.

all motor, you'll be able to put your driving skills to the test and be competetive.

they assume there will be reliability issues with the turbo system and that you sould spring an oil leak while on track and possibly put other drivers in danger.

That makes sense. I just have never heard of that before and was curious to why that is.

there are a lot more safety precautions taken on a road course where you are wheel to wheel at race speeds with other cars...

Hmm I can not understand why they would do that. I understand I just never thought about it like spilling oil but now he said it I can see why.
