Wink Went to the track this past friday!!!! 1/4 mile

Ok, so me and my brother went to the track on friday after work. Now this is not my first time out to a track. But it is the first time i have been to a 1/4 mile track. I am running reg. Street tires. And one more thing at thsi track there was no way to get around the bleach box. And i think this may have affected my launch alot. Imo i seem to launch better at the 1/8 mile track. My trap speeds where how ever very good. Most where 116-118 mph. But my times where all about the same. 13.4-13.7 or so. Some where worse and i may have had one really high 12. I want to try and run some slicks or some drag radials? How much better are slicks than drag radials? I know i need to work on my launches but there where so many people there that we only got 5 or six runs. And we got there at 7:30pm and let at 1:00am. Can i please get some feed bakc from you guys?

slicks are for drag racing at the track only, drag radials are street legal. just think for a couple seconds the difference in what each is meant to do. i'm guessing if you have an LSD, if you put slicks on, you could possibly drop a full .7 seconds. drag radials and lsd usually get people .5 off, and thats with a mildly built car. with the power you produce, you could potentially drop a full second off with a good launch and smooth shifting.

i think i can hit 11's if i got tracktion. all the other guys out there had a much slower trap speed that i did. but they had a much better hole shot. i got beat by a full sec. and i was going 11 or 12 mph faster at the finish line. also i didnt see very many people hitting 118mph. not the street leagal guys anyway.

thanks for the input though. i do see your point on the radials. and sadly i am not running a LSD TRANNY. JUST THE STOCK H23 TRANNY WITH ABOUT 209K MILES ON IT. I DO HAVE A 6 PUCK SPRUNG CLUTCH AND STAGE 4 PRESSURE PLATE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND FOR AN LSD TRANNY BUT I CANT FIND ONE ANYWHERE. A YEAR AGO I HAD A GUY THAT WAS GOING TO SELL ME ONE FOR 450 BUCKS. I WISH I WOULD HAVE JUMPED ON IT.

just get an aftermarket lsd. it will give you a whole new car. seriously, it will feel like you went from a kia to a bmw. it's good for daily use too. not sure about your whole build, but try to get traction bars too.

traction bars, lsd, and slicks, you'll smash. if you have 400hp (can't remember exactly) you should be running low 12's. mid 13's are all motor hatchback times. you should be wayyyyyy lower than that.

Yeah if i can get good traction i dont see why i cant run at leat 11's. I think my traps would be about 120mph.

Imo, it's a pain to change the tires before and after racing if you frequently race at the track and plan on driving to and from the track. I don't like having to trailer my car everywhere so I'm going to go with drag radials on mine.
Radials + lsd tranny + deadlocked reaction time + water-methanol injection kit + a wholelatta boost = I'm gonna be a happy girl... Ha

I wont mind changing my tires when i get out there. I think slicks will last alot longer as i wont be driving on them all the time. As of now i put on some nitto geo tires so far i like them they just dontgive me traction at the track! My girl freinds parents live in mccomb,ms and i used to live in gulf port. Last time i had to break my new engine i drove down there 508 miles there and 508 back then straight to the dyno....lol

Hmm... My friend was running Nitto Neogens with an lsd tranny on a DC2 integra and snapped an axle at the track. His Nitto's were gripping just fine lol.

I am running Nankangs on my Mazda and ALL I get is wheel hop. Grr.. Hopefully the stiff rear motor mount replacement will fix that. As for the CRX- I'm fairly certain that drag radials will be the only thing that gets me off the line.

yeah MFactory ftw if they make one for the h series..

i ran 12.96 @ 109mph on street tires @ 320whp

that should explain it lol

You can run every bit as bit as fast on a DR as you can on a slick. It takes a little more suspension tuning and a very careful staging process.

These days, slicks are for pussies.

i agree with newb... you can launch pretty damn hard on drag radials.

what kind of 60ft times where you running? your trap speed indicates you should be running a full second faster ET than you were. do you have launch control (aka 2 step)? i bet with some practice launching you could really improve your times.

with little 205/50 bfg drag radials on my integra i ran 13.2-13.7 at 104-105mph, this is with a 2.0-2.1 60ft time. get some radials would be my advice.

I wish i could try each one first...... But we will see. My launches arnt bad and i have a good reaction time its just the spinng ass tires that gets me.

spinning = bad launch

once you get just past the water box, do a quick burnout to clean and dry your tires. since you dont have lsd, you may have to turn the wheel a little from side to side to make sure they both spin (i dont have lsd either, and it works for me). i do burnouts in 2nd gear, i find it easier and more effective.

dont even worry about reaction time, pay more attention to how you are launching. theres no doubt with a boosted fwd car on street tires, you will have to pedal it quite a bit off the line. gotta find that fine line between just rolling off the line, and spinning.

Thanks, i will try turning the tires while i burn out. As for the bleach box. I try to go around it but at this track there is no way to go around.

find a technique that works for you. for me, i bounce my car off the two step then slowly let off and ease the clutch out on the first yellow. as i ease it out i push my foot back to the floor, and my car hooks every damn time. azenis hook nicely for a street tire.. super soft compound.

thats bullshit. thats why there are 2 different types of tires and classes for racing. slicks are FAR superior for drag racing. drag radials are the happy medium so a car can be deemed "street legal". if you are full drag racing slicks are the ideal solution. if you want to run a street legal class, you MUST get d.o.t. approved tires.

well, it all depends on what your bottom line goal is. if you want a killer time on your car, get slicks. if you want to be able to call your car "street legal" and have an accurate time of what your car can do stop light to stop light, use drag radials.

Do research.

DR cars are runnin similar times to slick cars, with similar tire sizes and power. Why do you think outlaw DR is gettin soo popular?

you didn't say that part. if you have similar size tire, why go to slicks? not only are slicks overall more sticky, but you use a much larger tire. we arent' comparing apples to apples here. one is purpose made for drag racing, one is to be street legal. nobody would trade a 205/50/15 drag radial for a slick. if you do slicks you are increasing the width by quite a bit. the gain in tire size is enough to take of a couple tenths of a second.

Thats BS on the tracks part. They should have it so you can go around it if you want to. I never do a burn out in the water box and I only do a burn out some times. Depend on how hot the track is and how hot my tires are. How much Hp are you making and when does your boost come on?? With my 87 Supra Turbo I had to get the rpms just right to keep from spinning or from bogging out. I once launched to high in a street race and just sat in the same spot until I shifted to second. Not a boosted Honda but lauching a turbo car is way different than NA.

I dont see why you should not hit mid 12's with a set of slicks based on that MPH. When i went from street tires to slicks on my omni GLH, i lost .6 time wise, and 7 MPH from my trap speed. good luck with everything.
