My friend is looking at buying an S2000 but it had the drive train replaced. He said the tranny, lsd, and one axle have been replaced. What would have caused this?

Not sure, that is alot of damage to happen all at once. Possibly something went awry in the transmission and the damage spread in some kind of catastrophic chain of events. Thats pretty weird! I guess you would have to ask the previous owner what exactly he did or what happend.

thats what i thought at first also, but i guess with the s2k you have to push the shifter down to go into reverse. nearly impossible.

The drive train could have been the former owners CHOICE to replace. What year is it? The earlier years' trans/ LSD's were plague with problems. I heard the axles are pretty easy to booger-up when replacing them, this could be the reason for it being replaced.

naa, 1 axle.. if you were going to replace for better parts, you'd have done both.
My first response was going to be "whapped a curb" But this is a rwd s2k. Rear wheel could have had a bearing failure, causing the whole system to suddenly jam.. that could jolt things hard enough to screw the trans. Or, on the same note, transmission could have seized suddenly (lost a tooth, then jammed the tooth between gears causing instant and sudden failure) which could screw with the rest of the system.

Correct. Plus you cant push it down coming from 6th( Which would be the eaisest gear to ACCIDENTLY shift to reverse in). You have to return to neutral-center then push down and shift for reverse. Any other gear you can push down and go to reverse from though.
