The answer is fairly simple "daily driver" was in the question for that I say b16 or just the b18....Reliability! more reliable than a hybrid. If you get the LS you can add the VTEC head later.
the cross member on my 88 crx is different than the one in my 91 hb.
conerlights are also different from 88-99 and 90-91:
88 mount on the fender
91 mount under the hood
there is a C-clip behind the window roller. Pop it out with a flat screwdriver there are also screws behind the speaker cover. prawjekt is right just unscrew all the phillips heads u find.

lil bit easier-->b18 or b16
try and get a hold of a tranny off a 88-91SiR its cable not hydro.
the b16a1 has the cable tranny on it but the tranny will fit on the b18
