If I understand the question correctly, you are trying to go from a complete stop by using second gear? Every car will lag if you try to go from a complete stop and put it in second, third or fourth gear.

Clutch is the problem. I finally got a chance to pull the tranny. It was the clutch alright. The spring retainer on the disc busted, and the spring was scrapping the pressure plate. A new one is on it's way. Thank everyone for the input.

I wouldn't take a chance of blowing another alternator. The Amp rating on the alternator is there for a reason. The 80A alternator will have to work harder to charge your battery versus the 95A. You can probably rebuild the old alternator by changing out the brush inside of it. Just my opinion.
