The auto and manual trans for this vehicle are different in size so the mounting are located differently. Auto mounting is higher whereas the manual mounting point is lower, you need to modify the mounting points.

From what you described, it should be hardened valve seals plus worn or stuck piston oil rings when the engine smokes when accelerating. I dunno what model engine you have and for most civics, oil on the plug threads means leaking plug seals or the seals under the rocker covers if it is SOHC.
Have you tried checking for vacumn leakage? The vacumn leakage from manifold gasket, PCV valve on the valve cover, Brake Power Booster seal and any other vacumn hoses can also cause high and eractic idling.
From the symptoms that you describe, I believe it is something to do with the power steering pressure. This could be due to excessive free play at the pinion resulting in the control valve not getting positive reading from the pinion.
