    Ok so,

I am trading in the 06 GLI, as much as i like car, i just can't stand not having the AWD.

So here is the deal I have a very rare chance to STEAL a 2004 S4 Red 6spd with 47k on it.

Cons: gas and insurance goes up $500

Besides a Z06, its my reality dream car. Payments will be about the same give or take 20 dollars/m

    OR

I have a chance to also Steal a 2004 A4 Black 1.8T with 21k on it but its Auto.

CONS: Its not the S4 but it is mint as hell and its Auto

the s4 v8 motor is a PIG. its rated for 15/20, but that's pussy footing it. you'll probably see 12/18 at best.

that said, i'd never buy an auto tranny from vw/audi

My Mom has an auto 01' Jetta TDI and the transmission sucks so bad.

    I'd go with the S4.

Go back to the A6 and chip it or buy the 2.0T audi and chip it.

S4. Just make sure you read up on it's history. B6 S4's love to eat clutches if a douchebag drives it. but yeah, grab the S4, put some good tires on it (ditch the Pirellis if it has them) - and definately save for an exhaust. Stock S4 exhausts do not do the engine justice.

Only cons I can think of is that brakes and major services are not cheap. a T-belt is pricey, as are 8 plugs. However, with the A4, you deal with the 1.8T and its problems. Not to mention that 1.8t/auto A4's are massively underpowered, and if you want an A4 of that generation, you prolly should get a 3.0.

~22 mpg lifetime how i drive it (according to the on board computer). I could probably get 27+ out of it on the highway if i didn't 'drive' it.

keep in mind too, the s4 comes with summer tires. AWD or not, you're going to need a set of snows probably within a month

Whats the budget and what sort of mileage range are you looking within? I don't think anything around 50,000miles is unreasonable if you're just looking for a comfortable DD and you're planning on running it into the ground.

You can find plenty of A6's or A4 2.0t's for around $15k with ~65,000 miles on them.

2.7T's can be a can of worms if you don't know what youre getting into. a 3.0 A6 is about the same price wise, but is far simpler to own.

I want to keep it at $360/m at 60 months give or take $10 or so. In the past 3 years i have averaged a different car every 6 months. I was happy with my last A6 other then the gas mileage at 18mpg but that was when gas was $4+, now its back down to what we consider "normal".

The A4 1.8T with 21k seems to make more sense as far as longevity is concerned as the S4 already has 47-48k. But desire has quite a hold of me cause I've wanted an S4 for so long. A 6spd Red S4 <drool>. But then the practical side of me says the 1.8T Still a really nice car , it looks brand new.

So I've decided to go with the 1.8T. My insurance will literally double with the S4 and so will the gas cost and with the A4 the insurance will decrease by a whole $64/year and with a 1.8T the i should not really be effects by the gas.

    Sucks...I'll post some pictures though

21k? Get ready to change the water pump pretty soon. 1.8t water pumps = garbage. Be sure and buy an aftermarket (non VW or Audi) one with a metal impeller. It WILL fail.

Also look into changing the coolant flange on the back of the head at the same time. They like to leak slowly and create a coral reef on the back of your engine.
