I think it all ended in 1996 when Nissan said good bye to the US Fairlady.Those cars are the reason the modern Sports car is such a bore.
The MR2 was a bastion of cool design, if not for the fact that it was a direct rip off of the Ferrari 355. The first Gen MR2, however, was 25 years ahead of it's time.
