I'd rather have a 5 year old evo or....well evo. For some reason I LOVE the look of the 2015 Sti, but I still can't stand the engine warble.

I hate when cast companies put the same grill/headlights or taillights on multiple cars. It's just a smaller version of the fusion front and I didn't like it on that either

17 year old evo.

the wheel spacing on the new sti bothers me. it looks like it's going to topple over. needs wider track

The Evo is a better car. I miss mine terribly.

i wish you held it just a year or so longer, i probably would have bought it. i keep thinking about buying an Evo or Subaru and turning it into a track/rally car.

If I had held onto it for another year I probably would have sold the AMG and just gone back to driving the Evo daily. lol

haha fair enough. what did you end up doing with the del sol? you still have the ad in your signature.

yep pretty much the exact same thing that happened a few years ago with EVOs and STis

i'd say it's a smart move. I mean, Subaru does it best IMO with the AWD so for another manufacture to introduce it doesn't impress me.
price is stil rediculous for what i would consider to offer less than a 35k Sti.
Also, trans stil needs to prove itself.

And while all the Ken Block nut suckers are getting excited Subaru is mostly likely already working on the new Sti engine to top it. lol.
With the WRX 2.0 twinscroll setup and fuel setup i'm excited to see how they can incorporate that into the EJ25 of the Sti. :)

In conclusion, good for Ford but for the money I'll take a proven Sti anyday.

You spelled Mitsubishi Evo all wrong in your entire post...

I don't see a reason to buy an STI, i'd rather buy a base model and mod.

The problem with that is the trans. The trans in the WRX can't reliably hold big HP guys have broken them in the 300-350hp range. Where with the STi trans there's guys putting down 500+ on the stock STi trans. Costs about $5k to get the STI trans into a WRX.

Brakes are another part of the story. It'll cost you at least 1000 to get the STi brembos into your WRX. And that's the low end. Probably closer to 1500-2000 with all 4 calipers/rotors/pads.

But 99% of people can't outdrive a base model with 300hp, let alone 500hp. For a daily driver, a base is fine. It's like the difference between a Yamaha R6 and Yamaha R1.

09+ WRX stock has about 250whp. Depending on dyno. Usually within about 5-10whp of the STi when measured back to back. So yeah stock output between the two is close.

Many WRXs get up to a stage 2 level (downpipe, intake, tune, other bolt ons) for ~300whp. There have been a few guys who broke their trannys at this level, but if you're not beating on it, you're generally fine.

Then there's a few guys who will want to turbo swap at that point and get some more power. Usually in the 350-450whp level. Greatly increases your chances of breaking something.

So yeah, if you keep it stock and just DD it, you're better off with the WRX. But if you ever want a a good bit more power you're better off with the STi to start.

Ford should have done this back in the late 90s, it's way to late to the party. Aiming for the original WRX would have been a good idea too but no, still didn't bring it out. at the peak of the STI/EVO days would have been nice too. but no, still didn't do it. They waited for sales to slump enough that the EVO is no longer offered and when the Ford RS sells so so at best, they will say, "the US has been asking for the RS for years and we give it to you and it doesn't sell..." Just think if at the peak of the import days in the late 90s if ford offered the RS rather than a escort ZX2...
