Kalitta crushes 'em with colossal
4.428-second record qualifying run

Making up for time lost to Friday's rain, the NHRA's top drivers opened Saturday's qualifying for the third annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals with a slew of otherworldly numbers. Topping the heap by far was the quickest pass in NHRA's 52-year history, a stunning 4.428-second run at 333.00 mph by Mac Tools Top Fuel pilot Doug Kalitta.
"It launched so hard and pulled so hard, nice and straight, that by half-track I knew it was a record," a breathless Kalitta said at the top end. "That was a pretty awesome feeling." Kalitta can claim both ends of the national record if he posts another run of at least 4.472 seconds at a top speed of 329.67 mph or faster during this race.

ive seen jet cars go like 5.xxx @ 300 and there is just no way to describe how fast that really is.
