79Civic
is now Color Coated
most of you are familiar with klyph's 78 cvcc build. and a couple of you ask me to post my build in his thread. so figured i might as well start.
were both building 1st gen civics with the same motor D16A1 out of a 88/89 integra. only difference is his car was the cvcc model which basically means his engine bay is 2" longer than mine, so room is in his favor more than me. and im turboing right off the bat. so im at an even bigger loss for room. but either way. lets start the 2nd 1st gen civic build on this forum.
found this car for sale down in gresham oregon for 200 bucks. heck of a deal if you ask me. it had some hang ups but nothing that wasnt easy to get around. so heres how it sat fresh of the trailer.
the stock 1.2L motor. max hp... 50. top speed. 75 mph.... 0-60.... somewhere around 25 seconds LOL. kiss this motor good bye! so started gutting the engine bay. basically trashing everything since im not using any of it.
the new d16 i picked up for a wopping FREE! and yes it did come with a 5spd tranny even thou not pictured
finally pulled the stock motor
awaiting the double slammer
going in for some test fitting and some massaging of the engine bay.
it sorta fit....
first problem was the intake manifold resting on the firewall.
notching out the sides to clear the belts and pulleys
tranny side.
Trans sticks into the wheel well about an inch or so.
Motor in its final resting position finally (i think)
started to work on fabbing engine mounts. but moved it out side so i could clean up that junk yard i called a shop.
everything gutted on the inside. believe it or not, i cant wait to see a huge wiring mess like i see in klyphs right now LMAO!
anyway... as far as the motor work goes thats as far as i have gotten right now. ive been devoting most my time into all the custom body work ive been doing on the car. but after reading klyphs for so long, i think its time i switch back to the motor work. so my goal is to have mine on the road before spring. so we will see.
tomorrow im picking up the turbo for it, and possibly another set of stock motor mounts so i can refab my custom mounts. so expect to see that VERY soon. i might be able to pick up a ecu and a couple other little things tomorrow so we will see.
anyway ill at least have a turbo update tomorrow night. if i generate enough interest i might post my custom body work on here too. other wise you'll have to browse another site for that part. take it easy!
