79Civic

is now Color Coated
most of you are familiar with klyph's 78 cvcc build. and a couple of you ask me to post my build in his thread. so figured i might as well start.

were both building 1st gen civics with the same motor D16A1 out of a 88/89 integra. only difference is his car was the cvcc model which basically means his engine bay is 2" longer than mine, so room is in his favor more than me. and im turboing right off the bat. so im at an even bigger loss for room. but either way. lets start the 2nd 1st gen civic build on this forum.

found this car for sale down in gresham oregon for 200 bucks. heck of a deal if you ask me. it had some hang ups but nothing that wasnt easy to get around. so heres how it sat fresh of the trailer.

the stock 1.2L motor. max hp... 50. top speed. 75 mph.... 0-60.... somewhere around 25 seconds LOL. kiss this motor good bye! so started gutting the engine bay. basically trashing everything since im not using any of it.

the new d16 i picked up for a wopping FREE! and yes it did come with a 5spd tranny even thou not pictured

finally pulled the stock motor

2593622_40_full.jpg

awaiting the double slammer

2593622_39_full.jpg

going in for some test fitting and some massaging of the engine bay.

2593622_41_full.jpg

it sorta fit....

2593622_43_full.jpg

first problem was the intake manifold resting on the firewall.

notching out the sides to clear the belts and pulleys

tranny side.

2593622_49_full.jpg

Trans sticks into the wheel well about an inch or so.

Motor in its final resting position finally (i think)

2593622_52_full.jpg

started to work on fabbing engine mounts. but moved it out side so i could clean up that junk yard i called a shop.

2593622_69_full.jpg

everything gutted on the inside. believe it or not, i cant wait to see a huge wiring mess like i see in klyphs right now LMAO!

2593622_73_full.jpg

anyway... as far as the motor work goes thats as far as i have gotten right now. ive been devoting most my time into all the custom body work ive been doing on the car. but after reading klyphs for so long, i think its time i switch back to the motor work. so my goal is to have mine on the road before spring. so we will see.
tomorrow im picking up the turbo for it, and possibly another set of stock motor mounts so i can refab my custom mounts. so expect to see that VERY soon. i might be able to pick up a ecu and a couple other little things tomorrow so we will see.

anyway ill at least have a turbo update tomorrow night. if i generate enough interest i might post my custom body work on here too. other wise you'll have to browse another site for that part. take it easy!

awesome, thanks for posting it up.. should become rather popular pretty quickly.. we want to see pics of every little step on the car..:thumbsup::thumbsup:

oh trust me i know. im normally pretty good at taking detailed pics. when i really start getting into that work, which will be very soon. this thread will be a 56k dont even bother trying. with a warning note expect frequent computer lock ups haha.

Great project.... I'll be watching and dumping my worthless 2cents on everything!!!!! By the looks of the wet bike on the trailer behind the car I'd imagine you're in a much warmer climate than KLYPH (+1) ??? And what is the look your going for with this one?

yeah but right now its getting cold. cold for me anyway, klyph would prob be wearing shorts and saying this is pussy shit lol.

as for the "look" im just building this car to look different. im taking bumper from other cars and chopping them in pieces and fiberglassing them onto the car to fit right. just to make it look different. right now ive got the rear bumper off a 05 honda civic ex on. and it looks good im keeping it. i had a subaru forester bumper on the front and ripped it off, right now i started working on a legacy bumper for the front but i dont think im going to waste my time, it looks like a 240 bumper lol. so i gotta find something else.

its being build for a nice street car/1/4 mile track car. it will be pretty much full race interior with a roll cage. but its going to have a lot of show too to keep it looking nice.

Awesome, but you got a LONG way to go :)

haha trust me... i know lol.

i didnt get to go to portland today to pick up my parts. maybe tomorrow hopfully. so no updates untill i get some parts lol.

well i did finally make it to portland, that turbo was so freaking rusted up the shaft was seized!!! what a waste of 50 bucks in gas. and the integra i wanted to rip parts off of was gone :( total wasted trip for me. but im going back down soon, theres another integra i can at least get my mounts from. so maybe some progress next weekend.

well im bored i figured since body work is part of my build i might as well post it in here too. so heres the extent of what i did tonight.

the euro civic!! haha jk.

LOL yes its a scion TC bumper. good job guys!

ill save ya the trouble and the dash is from a 05ish subaru legacy. i didnt get any work done today, but maybe tomorrow.

The TC bumper almost looks like an A4 bumper with the black grill junk missin out of it. I know that rear bumper is from an 01-05 civic coupe. It kinda makes it look like a MINI in he back.

I could see it was a TC bumper from the start. I was so close to buying one. I am happy with my civic hatch though. Are you going to use the stock civic headlights? Maybe you should mount them in there and take a vote on how they look.
