Ok so here is the deal. My husband is doing the motor swap. I have a 92 Accord EX, the motor finally went at 269,000 miles. I was able to purchase a used motor with 65,000 on it. The new one is in the car and everything is connected, however when we start it it runs rough then cuts off after a few seconds, even when we rev the engine. We were thinking there is a vacuum hose leaking somewhere but haven't really checked it out. Is there anything else that would be causing this? The motor apparently came out of a 92 EX manual (mine is automatic). Would there be a compatibility problem because of that? Any advice would be great, I'm ready to have my car back.

The transmission deal shouldn't be an issue. Which ECU are you using?

The check engine light stays on... however I haven't hooked it up to see what codes are popping... I have to ask my husband about the ECU but I know he put a new throttle body on it and I believe he took the old distributor off of the old motor... if he didn't do you think that would help, the plugs and wires are all brand new and yes they are NGK plugs...I know I'm not a wealth of information but I'm trying to take matters into my own hands a little here to get this thing done...

If you've got a CEL, then those codes should be your starting point for diagnosis. I mean, that's what they're there for, right? :D

Soooo.... turns out it's not an EX motor, it came out of an LX so I've got to get a different ECU and wiring harness and that should fix the problem... at least that's what my husbands honda mechanic friend said. So... we shall see... I still want to find out what codes it's throwing first though.

thats not gonna work, the harness and ecu you have now will work just fine. find out what the codes are saying and you will find the real problem.

    :werd:

Those older Accords didn't have VTEC, so that ECU should be close enough. The real issue here would be to pull the codes and fix whatever it says is wrong...
