93 Del Slo S tranny swap question

Hi kids, im new to honda's, pickd up a 93 Del Sol S. Going to eventually do a big build, but for now just want to throw in an SOHC V-Tec for a little extra kick. I found a D16Y8 setup with an S40 tranny for a good price. My question is, what tranny would be better? the S40 or the one that is already in my car? If I can save the 100-150 bucks by not buying the S40 I'll do that but I wanted to ask the pro's

I don't know all the transmission codes off hand, but if your S40 is the 96-00 EX transmission, then the ratios should be:

1 3.250
2 1.909
3 1.250
4 0.909
5 0.702
R 3.153
F 4.250

Your stock transmission should be:

1 3.250
2 1.761
3 1.172
4 0.909
5 0.702
R 3.153
F 4.058

So the S40 if I have everything right will be a little bit faster, maybe 10% shorter on all the gears, and slightly better ratios in 2nd and 3rd.

s40 came on a few motors, including the d16z6. it should match up well tot he y8
