my local mechanic told me my halfshaft was leaking and told me i eventually needed to replace the halfshaft bearing... what would be the worse possible outcome if i keep driving it? should i just get a new halfshaft?

Worst case, your halfshaft bearing disintigrates, locks up the driveline and you blow gears out of the trans. not very likely to happen.
More likely it will just make noise/vibration that will get increasingly worse the longer you wait. personally, I'd get the bearing and fix it ASAP.
