Why not encourage them to file Chapter 11? That way they can haggle on all of the contracts again and restructure.

That's what they really need to do. That way, they can finally do something about outrageously overpriced union labor and actually restructure in ways that will allow them to become profitable again. I doubt it will happen though...the government will continue to give them money, and they'll continue to limp along and let the unions ass-rape them for wages and benefits...

Gas prices rising has been nothing new, but then again as gas prices go up everything else goes up, I remember when you could get a new on the lot mustang gt for less than 15k. Now days your paying what 50K!!!

I expect the companys will get screwed and the union workers will get screwed even more.

50k? Exaggeration? 30k tops.

The cost of alllllll inputs has gone up for evrey company. My dad bought his toyota pickup for 11k in 85. Now You can't get one for under 30k.

They need to get rid of the bullshit unions and the outrageous wages a lot of the workers are making. I heard on the radio that union workers whose jobs have been eliminated because of efficiencies, such as a robot doing their job, still get to keep their job. This means they get paid to sit on their asses. Also they need to cut the amount of dealerships they have.

they simpoly need to make a better product.

if they sold cars, they could afford to keep all their union workers.

but, they make garbage, and so many people just simply won't buy it any more. My self included.

I will probably NEVER buy another American made vehicle in my life (based on current quality and model offerings).

so, for the next 20-30 cars of my life time, my money will not be going to them, but to their competitor.

You want my money? Impress me enough to spend it with you.

yea the dudes on the assembly line make like 70k a year

Flippen GM needed to get out of the game a long time ago.
Chrystler always made luxury vehicles but that's what they are known for.
Ford....don't get me started on these guys.
Explorers. F150. Fusion. Escort. Taurus.
#@$)(@9#@$

I give props on the fiesta- that was one fun fish-tailing vehicle.
:p

i second this i build performance GM automatics every day and at least 1 out of 3 cores that we take apart to build there is some sort of important part in them that has been stamped REJECT. This is one of the reason that they are going under if 33% of there transmissions since 2005 have a bad part in them and they fail what does the consumer think when 1 in 3 corvettes has a transmission failure in the first 90 days. We wont even talk about the 08 Z06 that we got shipped to us to convert to a 6spd automatic that had to be towed back to the shop from a testdrive before we tore it apart because the clutch pedal was stuck on the floor with a whoping 43mi

well when we took the car apart the pressure plate was stuck released. and shure enuff the word reject was on the pressure plate with the date 9/16/07 and the time this is why the are going under

GM, Ford, Chrysler and others will fall. New ones will spring up. Those new ones will carry with them the new philosophies of labor, quality, and function that will define the future of not only the auto industry, but of american life.

:werd:

Exactly why we need to let them fail. They'll be bought out by more successful companies and will start out fresh.

They are way too big to fall. They might have a huge fallout, need a govt bail out, restructure, new leadership, etc.. But they will not just fall flat on their faces.

:werd: They have a part in way more than just building automobiles to go under.

Most of those companies died easily because they were very small. GM is a huge outfit. And just like a little seamstress going out compared say, Carter's, it's a different scenario.

Someone at GM or Ford needs to say "Lets take a bunch of guys and make our own cars". It seems that no one is being enthused enough to do this.

I fucking hate GM, their cars have always given me trouble at the worst times.
I say let em fail. If they cannot figure out how to run a successful business, thats their problem. Capitalism, survival of the fittest. Toyota, Honda, etc. are going to make it out just fine. Why can't GM/Ford? Oh, thats right, because they have been producing shit for the past ~15 years. Should've produced a better product.
