Does anyone know about altimas? specifically problems with the manual transmissions

well, my brother had one that shit the bed, bad
then we got one from a junk yard, but it wasn't good, so we got another
now my brother has claimed that it was leaking from between the motor and trans, swore it wasn't an axle seal...
it would leak after he drove it.... and it kinda howls etc..
so we thought the input shaft bearing went bad and took out the seal, so it was leaking from the input shaft whenever it was driven...
so lastnight we ripped the trans out...
the car hasn't been driven in prob 6-8 months, but when we finally get it out, i don't see any sign of gear oil inside the housing
it was dirty as shit, but i don't think we cleaned it when we changed it last time, but still, no moist or glossy areas at all...
so i've been calling trans shops today about changing the bearing, but it seems it'll cost a knot and a half and no one has ever done one before
so now i'm not sure what to do...
