Fuck Mars and the Moon... let's go straight to Jupiter and the asteroid belt... start harvesting tons of minerals and natural gases.

We have a public school system for a reason. To ensure that everyone has a chance to get an education. We aren't all rich fucks that can pay our way through school.

if we werent paying taxes that pay for that bullshit 12 year daycare system, we would all have more money for private schooling... not to mention if there was more private schools then there would be competition over price and performance and people would get a lot more for their money as far as education goes... its just like cell phones... a few years ago when there was only a few companies out, the prices were high and you didnt get much in the way of benifits... now that there are assloads of companies out they compete with eachother to offer the most features for the lowest price... win/win situation... the same would be true of the educational system

Gotta pay for that prison somehow.

absolutly... and i have no problem paying to keep criminals in prison... but do they really need to stay in the luxury that they stay in now?? hell no... TVs, radios, weight rooms, game rooms, climate controled environment, etc etc... is this prison or a fucking club med vacation??? how bout a little less comfort and a little more rehabilitation so when they come out they might actually have something to offer society

HOLY FUCK! Did the left and right side of your brain contact and explode yet? First, you want to bulk up government spending on the military, then two seconds later want government cutbacks?! THAT. DOESN'T. WORK.

Besides, we have the single most powerful military on this planet. WHY THE FUCK DOES IT NEED BEEFING UP!? Were you once employed by the USSR perchance?

what is so hard to understand here???
cutbacks = get rid of the shit that doesnt fucking matter... like welfare, like 80% of the space program, like public education, like free prescription drug shit, like free health care, like amlost all of the shit that the government hands out to people so they dont have to provide for themselves

military = nessecary... it doesnt matter that we have the most powerful military "today"... there are plenty of countries/groups that would love to take a shot at us... the only thing that keeps them from fucking with us is the fear of what we are capable of doing in return (you will always have the random psycho fuck out there so dont bother bringing up 9/11... but if you havent noticed ... now that we have a president that does a little more than lob a few cruise missiles at a fuckin tent somewhere in the middle of the desert, we havent gotten attacked since)... for now this is fine... but the world is constantly evolving... if we just sit back and say "cool we are the biggest military power in the world, no one can ever fuck with us" and stop developing our military we will end up just like the iraqi military... at the time of the first gulf war it was the 3rd largest military in the world i believe... but their technology was from the fuckin 60s... we walked all over them in what 4 weeks?? so it is VERY important to always be developing and updating our military... and as far as the pay in the military goes... right now it sucks... this is a major reason why recruitment figures are down... pay them better and there will be more voluntary soldiers...

They barely have enough money to keep themselves afloat, much less go to the moon or Mars. What are they gonna do? Ask the Smithsonian for their stuff back!?

fuck the moon... fuck mars... there is no reason to go there

We had a massive arms race with them that basically made them dump all their cash into defense to the point that they couldn't afford to keep their government running. They were damn near FORCED to privatize everything.

you dont understand what communism/socialism is do you??? they can not privatize shit... as soon as they start relying on the private sector and free market THEY ARE NO LONGER COMMUNISTS/SOCIALISTS... they would be capitalists

fuck the moon... fuck mars... there is no reason to go there

Do we know what Helium-3 is? Naah, didn't think so. Next.

cutbacks = get rid of the shit that doesnt fucking matter... like welfare, like 80% of the space program, like public education, like free prescription drug shit, like free health care, like amlost all of the shit that the government hands out to people so they dont have to provide for themselves

Hmmm... these things are provided by our TAXES. I'm sure you enjoy paying hundreds of dollars for pills, having your deductable handling a fifth of your medical costs and being stuck on this planet with an uneducated population. However I don't. Universal healthcare... we're the ONLY rich nation without it! Public education... it sucks because our wonderful president underfunded it! Ever wondered why most seniors head up to Canada to get their Viagra? Because drug companies aren't fucking them up the ass without benefit of anal lube up there!

We provide for ourselves just fine... BY PAYING THE FUCKING TAXES.

military = nessecary... it doesnt matter that we have the most powerful military "today"... there are plenty of countries/groups that would love to take a shot at us... the only thing that keeps them from fucking with us is the fear of what we are capable of doing in return (you will always have the random psycho fuck out there so dont bother bringing up 9/11... but if you havent noticed ... now that we have a president that does a little more than lob a few cruise missiles at a fuckin tent somewhere in the middle of the desert, we havent gotten attacked since)... for now this is fine... but the world is constantly evolving... if we just sit back and say "cool we are the biggest military power in the world, no one can ever fuck with us" and stop developing our military we will end up just like the iraqi military... at the time of the first gulf war it was the 3rd largest military in the world i believe... but their technology was from the fuckin 60s... we walked all over them in what 4 weeks?? so it is VERY important to always be developing and updating our military... and as far as the pay in the military goes... right now it sucks... this is a major reason why recruitment figures are down... pay them better and there will be more voluntary soldiers...

Hmmm... hard one here. Translating... Ahhh here we go! Basically you say we should have the power to invade and otherwise blow the fuck out of any country that doesn't like us. Ah, typical backwards American reasoning. I can work with this.

Hitler thought the exact same thing. Where did it get him? Dead. His Third Reich? Defeated.

Japan. They thought a good idea would be to make a preemptive (boy do we know that word!) strike against the Americans in order to defeat them. Well, a few years, one Einstein and two earth-shattering kabooms later, Japan learned that wasn't the best way to handle things.

Back to our Soviet friends, since we like them so much. They had to have a gigantic army, missiles, missiles, missiles, tanks, tanks, tanks, and lots of poeple. Where are they? Gone.

Let me quote this one more time, just for the records: "at the time of the first gulf war it was the 3rd largest military in the world i believe... but their technology was from the fuckin 60s... we walked all over them in what 4 weeks??"

THIS was the "big threat to America?" A military whose best unmanned drone was made from cloth, wood and a lawnmower engine? As for the all-powerful "WMDs", there were none. Even if Saddie decided to build some missiles, the material he had was so crappy that they would have fallen apart upon launch. So much for our intelligence, eh?

Moving right along...

absolutly... and i have no problem paying to keep criminals in prison... but do they really need to stay in the luxury that they stay in now?? hell no... TVs, radios, weight rooms, game rooms, climate controled environment, etc etc... is this prison or a fucking club med vacation??? how bout a little less comfort and a little more rehabilitation so when they come out they might actually have something to offer society

Mostly agreed, but boredom and confinement = insanity. Insanity is what we DON'T need.

if we werent paying taxes that pay for that bullshit 12 year daycare system, we would all have more money for private schooling... not to mention if there was more private schools then there would be competition over price and performance and people would get a lot more for their money as far as education goes... its just like cell phones... a few years ago when there was only a few companies out, the prices were high and you didnt get much in the way of benifits... now that there are assloads of companies out they compete with eachother to offer the most features for the lowest price... win/win situation... the same would be true of the educational system

Your main flaw is that you actually trust corporate America. The same people that brought you countless scandals and more corruption than you can imagine. We can't trust them with our business, how can we trust them with our kids?!

I had the unfortunate horror of attending a private school for a couple of years. Methinks that besides colleges and universities, they should all meet the badass end of a flamethrower.

Also, what about people who can't afford private schooling?

you dont understand what communism/socialism is do you??? they can not privatize shit... as soon as they start relying on the private sector and free market THEY ARE NO LONGER COMMUNISTS/SOCIALISTS... they would be capitalists

Who says the Soviet government can't do what it damn well pleases? There weren't exactly set rules in that game.

So after we destroy the earth by exhausting all it's natural resources...do you really wanna live on Jupiter where you'd weigh something like 5 times what you do now?

Instead of going to Mars where it's basically the same size and same temperatures (if it had an atmosphere), you'd wanna go....where exactly?

Oh...don't give me the "it won't happen in my lifetime" this is hypothetical. :)

(geek mode) Ummmm... dude... Jupiter's surface is a metal ball approximately one mile in diameter, made of hydrogen. That's somewhere around 19.5 million pounds per square inch of pressure. Nothing lives there. Nothing ever will. :p (end geek mode)

Right now, private schools are turning down applicants who have more than enough money for funding. What are those students going to do if they can't get in to private schools based on scholastic merit, and all public schools are closed due to lack of government funding? get home schooled?

Clinton was able to pare down our monstrous military and still maintain superiority. Enough so for the Bosnian conflict, and up-to-date enough for the recent Afghanistan and Iraq battles. Under Clinton, we paid off Reagan and Bush Sr's defecit and made our way to a multi-trillion dollar surplus. Now we're in debt again. Does the Military really need more than half of our federal funds? I think there may be more important things our government should be doing than combing the desert for WMD. No, we havent gotten attacked since, but what about Israel, and our troops in Iraq, and our embassies around the world? they're getting hit with just as much terrorism as ever. Way to go, Rumsfeld.

Where'd you learn that at?

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and is the largest one in the solar system. If Jupiter were hollow, more than one thousand Earths could fit inside. It also contains more matter than all of the other planets combined. It has a mass of 1.9 x 1027 kg and is 142,800 kilometers (88,736 miles) across the equator.

Universal healthcare... we're the ONLY rich nation without it!

i have more experience with the medical field than most poeple on this board could immagine (motorcycle accident, $275,000 hospital bil, 18 months recovery / rehab) how did i cover it... good health insurance :) i dont want to see the government turn it into the DMV

Public education... it sucks because our wonderful president underfunded it!

public education has sucked ass for a lot longer than the current presidents term
the system is failing cuz it just plain out sucks
colleges have to compete with eachother... i feel that schools should as well... i think the quality would greatly improve
thats my oppinion ... you have yours

Basically you say we should have the power to invade and otherwise blow the fuck out of any country that doesn't like us. Ah, typical backwards American reasoning.

no not at all... i dont want to invade anyone... all i want is a strong military so in the event of some asshats fucking with us we're not getting our asses handed to us... everyone else is trying to catch up with and surpass us militarily... if that happens, we are in trouble

whole iraq thing

i really dont care about the WMD or whatever shit... im glad that he is out of power.. im glad the iraqi people are going to get a chance to live without a dictator... personally i think if we were going to attack anyone because they were a "threat" it should have been north korea... that place kinda scares me ... i can easily see it becoming the worlds nuclear walmart... i dont think they would use them directly against us ... but i dont think they would give a fuck about selling them to anyone who does want to use them against us

Mostly agreed, but boredom and confinement = insanity. Insanity is what we DON'T need.

agreed 100%.... that is where education and skills training comes in... instead of TVs, how bout some books?? instead of watching the news, how bout reading the paper?? cant read?? teach them... how bout teaching them a trade for when they rejoin society?? stuff like that i think would be far more benefitial

Your main flaw is that you actually trust corporate America. The same people that brought you countless scandals and more corruption than you can imagine. We can't trust them with our business, how can we trust them with our kids?!

I had the unfortunate horror of attending a private school for a couple of years. Methinks that besides colleges and universities, they should all meet the badass end of a flamethrower.

there must be a way for it to work ... it works for coleges

Also, what about people who can't afford private schooling?

here is one of the places i dont mind tax money being spent in the form of vouchers and such... but i still think that you should be able to choose where you send your kid

Who says the Soviet government can't do what it damn well pleases? There weren't exactly set rules in that game.

basicly what im trying to say is that their whole system was centralized around the government being the sole provider... there was no private sector

http://www-astronomy.mps.ohio-state.edu/~m...t4/jupiter.html

Jupiter is differentiated. Its four layers, moving downward are:
1) gaseous atmosphere - primarily molecular hydrogen (H2) and helium
2) liquid molecular hydrogen and gaseous helium - high pressure compresses the H2 into a liquid.
3) liquid metallic hydrogen - higher pressure further down has squeezed the electrons from the atoms, leaving them free to move about on their own. The result is a hydrogen liquid that has properties of a metal. For example, it conducts electricity. Liquid metallic hydrogen can only be created under extreme pressures, in excess of 1.4 million atmospheres, occurring only in Jupiter and (to a lesser degree) Saturn.
4) core - made of rock and ice - The core has eight times the mass of Earth packed into a volume slightly smaller than the Earth. The extreme pressure (70 million atmospheres) and temperature (22,000) make it difficult to determine whether the rock is solid or liquid. The ice is probably in liquid form.

It's much bigger than one mile diameter, I was wrong there. However the intense pressures needed to compress hydrogen to a metal are mind croggling. 1.4 million atmospheres multiplied by 14.7 pounds (one atmosphere). Also given 500km/h winds and less than suitable temperatures, aint a damn thing gonna be living there.

lol I never said lets go to jupitor, I know we cant live there...I was just goin off of what Calesta said. :p

Wow, from taxing the rich to future trips to Jupiter; this has certainly turned into an interesting thread. I like the idea of space exploration. Back when we thought the world was flat people spent a lot of time exploring, hence we now know that it isn't. Now we have satellites, so there's not much on Earth we can't find from a couch. As to Bush's new Mars proposition, sounds like campaign stunting to me. It seemed to come out of nowhere, and just seems remarkably similar to the campaign boosting tricks of previous presidents. But maybe Bush really is a die hard Trekkie, who knows.

I feel like I somehow failed to get my point across on the education issue. I agree that in most cases the private sector does a better job of promoting lower prices and higher quality products. However, a College education is becoming like healthcare, it's mandatory. You are going to need it at some point in your life. Yet despite the United State's refusal to actually implement universal healthcare, you can get health insurance; if you have a job, and can afford it.

There is no such provision for post-secondary education. Most people go to college after high school. It is quite difficult to do as well as you can in college while working a full time job. It is also very difficult to get a job that pays a decent wage without this type of education. I don't know very many people who had saved up $40K+ while going through high school. So, unless you have parents who can pay for college, you either take out a student loan, or you don't go. This isn't about whether public or private institutions can provide a better quality of service. This is about forcing people into debt before they even begin working. And forgive me if I'm unfamiliar with the US college system, but I have yet to hear of tuition being lowered at any college, public of private.

I would speculate that it will be along time before we could see the effects of a free market system in college education. Currently the demand is still growing as people realize they must have a degree, so private institutions will simply continue to raise prices because they can. That is how the free market works.

I have a question for the guys that keep saying "oh, it's just a campain stunt" about Bush. Why can't a president have opinions, and agendas without you thinking it is a re-election stunt? Of course the guy wants to get re-elected, but that doesn't mean that everyhing he does is just soley for that purpose.

And to whoever said that education was sucking because of Bush, hamotherfuckinha, what rock have you been under since the seventies?

You know the more I think about it, the more I'm going to vote Karry. In 08 Hillary will run, what better way to keep her out then to have a Dem incumbant! That would be worth 8more years of liberalism, just so long as she doesn't get in in 2012

Colin Powel for pres in 08!!!

 I don't have time to sit here and read all of your ramblings.
-"tax cuts for the rich" NO... tax cuts for those who pay taxes.
All you libs out there want a tax cut on your welfare checks. that's a grant, not a tax cut. A grant that would come out of tax payers pockets. That's money we earned that is being taken at gun point by the government. e.i. stealing
-"corps. don't pay enough taxes"
You libs say this in the same breath as...
-"all the jobs are going over seas"
Wake the "F" up! raise taxes on corps and see how long they stay in town.
Make them pay an inflated minimum wage "living wage" and see waht happens.
Look at the mess in CA right now. Arnie has his hands full. Orl. FL is on the same track. Thanks to you bleeding-heart, bed wetting liberals.
Don't get me wrong GW has his faults,he could dramatically reduce the defecit he he would cut back on excess spending for special interest groups, but he's definetly the lesser of two evils.
Do you guys realize what we could all do with xtra cash in our pockets every week. GW and the R's are on the right track. Put more money back into the pockets of the masses and they will spend or invest it. The economy WILL grow. jobs WILL be created, people will be able to get off welfare.
AND... most important of all, I'd be able to afford an H22 swap into my 99ls. ;)
