Bri,

The fact is most people use MS operating systems because they buy their systems that way...People use the software just for the sheer number of support for MS products that is out there...most people don't have the knowledge to mirgate to linux, or to learn php, or have the funds to mirgate to these things....People like things simple and using IE is simple because its already there and it exists....no matter how much some things suck, people just don't want to let go...

Its sad now that i think about it

i put mozilla on my dads 450mhz machine... runs like a champ.

:shrug2:

also runs like a champ on my 3.0ghz machine.

and, that is the whole point of this post-- to educate, and spread the word, and well, get in the search engine ranking for "ANTI-IE" :p

Use Mozilla if only for the AdBlock plugin.

Don't like seeing that banner on your favorite page? Right click on it, click Adblock. The banner is gone. You can delete entire freaking frames of stuff you don't want to see. Annoying Flash ad? Adblock adds a little tab to every flash item on the page, you can block what you want. I don't know why you'd want to, but you can even block text-based google ads, anything in it's own iframe basically.

No more banner filled crap sites! Check your favorite sites and only see the info you want. No banners, popups, flash ads, just pure info.

THAT'S got to bring a few people over to the light side. :D

Double posting, but what the heck if it converts a few people. :) Trying to show off Adblocks power. :)

Went and grabbed an example of a typical bannered-up site:

Cardomain.com before:
Before.jpg

After Adblock:
After.jpg

Let's see IE top THAT. Let me direct you to this site:

I want you to give me IE on Linux.

Operating systems make a big difference there.

Nick, that's where you're wrong.

Microsoft has OPENLY ADMITTED that they have ZERO intentions on releasing a new browser, until Longhorn, and then, only with an entire O/S.

In May, 2003 Microsoft stated that it would no longer produce new stand-alone versions of its browser, and that the browser would only be upgraded when installing new versions of its operating system. The implications of this are not trivial: users of any existing Microsoft OS will never be able to get an upgrade for their IE browser on their current systems.
The Future When the newest version of IE ("IE7"?) finally comes shipped with Microsoft's next operating system (currently code-named "Longhorn"), it will have been about 4 years since the release of IE6. Microsoft's browser is currently firmly entrenched as the dominant browser on the Windows platform now, but this long time-frame gives its competitors time to build some steam. The fact that IE will no longer receive new version updates on any existing operating system seems like a risky move, as many people as well as companies do not upgrade right away. This could give competitors a chance to build market share. Time will, of course, tell.

I have no intention to move to longhorn, and even if i did, its YEARS behind schedule as we sit anyway. Once a real good linux o/s comes out that i can run photoshop, or somethin AS powerful on, i will move to it.

in mac land, IE is already dead. this was last year:
