my friend is lookin to buy an 87 accord for like 400 bucks. and he wants to know if there is any upgrading options for this car. are there any swaps he could do becaus e it needs a new tranny and he was thinkin if hes gotta do work he might as well put something else in there.

If the idea is to buy a CHEAP car, and keep the options cheap, then he doesn't have much hope. It would be cheaper to buy a 1990 Accord in preparation for a swap, than to modify a 87. Is there hope, yes. Is hope cheap? Not really.
