If hes running a 20 offset chances are no.

If you buy the correct wheels for your car, you wont need spacers.

Not my car but with a 9"+ wheel you don't need spacers with a +20 or lower offset

going to a larger OD tire not only will screw with the handling of the car but will also throw the speedo off and mess with things like the ABS/TSC since the car will think its going slower then it really is.

smaller rim, larger tire = factory spec outer diameter
better ride quality, less fear or a cracked rim
doesnt shake your brain to mush on back roads
